CAP-XXΒ formalizesΒ partnershipΒ withΒ MurataΒ toΒ supply supercapacitorsΒ
Following the announcementΒ ofΒ a letter of intent in March,Β CAP-XXΒ todayΒ announcesΒ the signing ofΒ aΒ formalΒ contractΒ with Murata Manufacturing Corporation ofΒ JapanΒ (Murata)Β to jointly developΒ andΒ supplyΒ high performanceΒ supercapacitors for mobile handsets and otherΒ peakΒ power-hungry, space-constrainedΒ portableΒ applications.Β Β
TheΒ companiesΒ willΒ initiallyΒ work togetherΒ toΒ scaleΒ supercapacitorΒ production to meet the anticipated demand of the global mobile handset market.Β TheΒ companiesΒ anticipate that volume mass production and salesΒ fromΒ this partnership will commence in late 2009.
Murata's manufacturing expertise willΒ speedΒ mass production. The electronic component giant'sΒ distribution expertiseΒ willΒ greatly expand theΒ salesΒ andΒ marketingΒ of the
CAP-XXΒ developedΒ supercapacitors,Β whichΒ haveΒ earnedΒ a unique industry position as the smallest and thinnest available for theΒ peakΒ power delivery and energy storageΒ they provide. InΒ parallel,Β the partnersΒ will jointly develop next generation productsΒ with CAP-XX leading the material development.
TheΒ partnershipΒ agreementΒ enablesΒ CAP-XXΒ toΒ meetΒ itsΒ customers'Β requirementsΒ forΒ quality, volume and specification.Β Β Under the terms of the licence,Β CAP-XX will receive licence feesΒ and a royaltyΒ basedΒ onΒ the volume ofΒ salesΒ of supercapacitors.
Anthony Kongats, CEO of CAP-XX, commented:Β
"Murata is theΒ strong manufacturing partner weΒ soughtΒ to increase the capacity ofΒ ourΒ thin-form supercapacitors and 'de-risk' CAP-XX as a supplierΒ toΒ theΒ high-volume, mobile device customers who needed more productionΒ capacityΒ than we could guarantee. Β Murata is also theΒ leading supplier to theΒ all of the topΒ mobile handset marketΒ companiesΒ and as such is able to support us inΒ buildingΒ production to meet theΒ demands of the marketplace, whilstΒ supportingΒ CAP-XXΒ inΒ new product development."
A Murata spokesperson said:
"Murata is pleased to partner with CAP-XX, the leader in supercapacitor development, to provide our customers with innovative and leading edge solutions".Β
