Hi cj, I still think the timescale could have something to do with KNAC's statement that I also mentioned earlier in the week about heritage activity being suspended until March and - as we had also picked up - their pending appointment of a Heritage Compliance Officer. None of this would seem to give any cause for concern, it's just a possible explanation for the fact that nothing seems to have happened just yet. If UFO hadn't given the impression that everything on this score would have been done and dusted by the end of Q4 2022, nobody would probably have the least little worry.

Hi again 944T, there is a lengthy piece about the 'Expedited Procedure' for applications in the KNAC Newsletter that I mentioned yesterday. From this it would APPEAR that an application to mine can be lodged before the process of gaining heritage clearance is begun, but it is not easy to follow all the procedural gobbledygook. Anyway, see what you can make of it. It's on pages 7 to 9. Cheers.

Well, Unclejim, we all know full well that an RNS is not released unless there is actually something relevant to say. But nonetheless, as you rightly say, at least BBG's regular tweets did reassure us that everyone at UFO was still alive and safe.

For lack of anything better to do, I've been reading a bit more of KNAC's Newsletter, in which there is an article about the Expedited Procedure (or "Fast Track") implemented by the Department of Mines on 1st June 2022. As KNAC's article describes things "The onus (responsibility )is still on the Native Title Party (KNAC) to object against the application o the expedited procedure within a period of 4 months from the notification day. If no objection is received within the four(4)month statutory objection period, the future act may be done (i.e. tenement may be granted)". Don't know if that makes anything clearer or not. Maybe I should stick to detective stories :)

Bishop, I really do wish LSE would give us more options than just 'Recommend'. It would make things much more entertaining if we could have 'Ha Ha', 'Boo Hoo' and just plain 'Boo' symbols. Yours warrants a 'Ha Ha'.

I suspect in many cases it's not nerves as such, smiller, as just sheer frustration. It's a bit like being a 17-year old who's just been given the keys to a Lamborghini by indulgent parents and then being told you'll have to wait until DVLA comes back off indefinite strike.

KNAC's Newsletter Edition 1, September 2022, gives a list of Native Title meetings held in June, July and August. So hopefully Edition 2 will include UFO, out there in the public domain for all to see progress. When is Edition 2? Well, they do say "We look forward to sharing news, events and results with you here every few months".

You know, funkinmonks, the same thing crossed my mind. They would not have to give away anything that was commercially sensitive, just a generalised explanation with regard to their timescales. I did the same thing once with Canadian authorities and they were quite helpful.

Yep, Deanok. I have twice had the pleasure of participating in boards where the posts have been almost universally objective and capable of distinguishing - and acknowledging - threats as equally as opportunities. But it is a rarity.

Basic office skills? Managing risk is a bit more than making coffee and working out how to us the photocopier. If I were the new postholder I'd feel a bit insulted.

From a managerial perspective I can understand why they MIGHT be easing back on new approvals pending the arrival of the newly-appointed Compliance Officer. Yes, it is the skill-set of the Lawyer which is required for the legal side of things, but it will be the Compliance Officer who will have to manage the agreements. So they MIGHT quite reasonably think to hold things back for a while (the planned period December to March) to give the postholder time to get comfortably started on their workload. I say MIGHT, because it's just a guess. But my guess is as valid as anyone else's, pending any actual communication.

Dear Max, you keep saying this, "anticipated". Anticipated doesn't necessarily make it so. We've had enough delays, so going beyond Q4 2022 isn't the end of the world. Nothing that UFO "anticipates" is set in stone.

How do we KNOW this, Max? Did she (Yes, it IS a she) tell us?

I haven't got the website up at the moment, but I think from memory, Deanok, the closing date for applicants for the post was 16th January? Which would perhaps fit with the statement that they'd be resuming Native Title work in March.

Well spotted, Deanok. As well as holiday closures, etc, I'd noticed that on their website too and was wondering about this possibly being a factor in not processing Heritage Titles for the time being.

It's not quite how I read the KNAC statement, though, Max. If KNAC is "not ... participating in any Heritage services activity" between December and March, then that "any" to me would include signing documents.

Yes, it's all a bit queer, isn't it, Max? If KNAC have, as they say on their website, ceased Heritage activities for the time being from December, then the inference is that they should have given their agreement to us before December.

Hi Max, I had an idle moment (one of many, LOL), so I just went on to the KNAC website, and lifted this off their 2023 Calendar page:

"A reminder to our stakeholders that KNAC will not be participating in any Heritage services activity, Native Title meetings or external committees between December and February. As previously advised, these activities are scheduled from March 2023".

So looks like it could be Q2 at the earliest before we learn anything.
