DK, they way that Morgan Stanley are going and the share buyback rules as other posts have mentioned, it looks unlikely that they will ever get the 20m or the 200m they are looking for. so in the meantime, get the money as soon as, do a $ 700m special div to shareholders, forget the buy back (waste of time), do a share consolidation ( i assume a 1 for 2) and use the spare cash wisely in my view.

i doubt they would not pay out now, the tax refund co's should be following the rules as laid out in the newly enacted law so when all the conditions are met, i assume it is automatic. the question is timing, unwinding legal cases/claims takes time and the backdrop is not the easiest of times to be doing this in. i dont know how many jurisdictions they filed a claim but i assume it was India, US, UK, Singapore, France, etc. i think it is 90% certain to happen but the question is when.

will it improve the SP and their future strategy on focussing on core investments ?

i think this news helps the repayment also as it is a "connected" case/claim

thats a lot of boxes of ladoo's and jelabi. i think they should ask if they can help finding the special tax refund pen for chq signing purposes.

i assume the current day by day share buyback will continue at low amounts until they receive the GoI funds, once they do the share div of $ 500m, they can then announce a set price for the share buyback for holders wishing to sell at that price ???

not sure why they dont just give $ 700m to the shareholders via the div and forget the buyback, i for one would be happier with that as would i with a $ 1bn div !!

i assume with the name change from Monday, the ticker will change also ? i suppose having the name start with the same initial means that it shouldn't but the LSE works in mysterious ways !

it should be an interesting 9.5 days from Monday, it either happens pre Xmas or after new year i would have thought, unless they want to bury it over the deadzone of 27th to 31st December ?

apologies, taking todays $1.32/£ and INR 99.57/£; 79bn INR is £ 793.412m (give or take a few paisa !) and $ 1.0473bn.

remember there'll be CHAPS charges of £ 40 for the tfr and an arbitrary exchange rate used by SBI to stuff CNE also so the final figure is a moving target.

i assume the tax to be deducted story has now gone, ie is it taxable or not so the 79bn should be gross and net.

i dont think there is any IT attached anymore on divs (i could be mistaken) as that seems to be the right calculation for my holding.

the cash div was 0.2p per share and the scrip div at 2.0p per share. i had the figure previously but the worked example in the circular suggests 6.0883 shares for ever 100 held and no fractional shares to be given.

not sure why i called it Sprint ! market seems to like it, if it can put a base under 70+ that would be +ve. it does appear if value of the parts is more than the SP. i assume most of the proceeds will go towards shoring up pension liabilities in CNE, possibly a minor dividend to be paid out, who knows.

anyone have a view on if this is good or bad or do we let the market decide ?

it normally takes 24 hours for the investment platforms to credit you with the shares - i am with II and that seems to be the trend. i think they date it for the scrip div day.

i think you will find that they moved on from having rads in the house. it might have been a govt edict to avoid that very same situation arising again. the silly thing (!) was that the majority of Lebanese knew where he was being held but couldnt say anything about it, just like Mr Ghosn who walks around freely in Beirut when he is there. you just need "umbrella" insurance to do so.

i cant wait for the India funds RNS - should be 225+ when that happens. i reckon it will be w/c 20th December or it will have to wait until the new year then due to the holiday season. every day that passes brings us one day closer to the answer to the riddle.
