Stands to reason trans-Atlantic flights will reduce as Trump re-aligns the US with Russia, and probably intra-European travel will increase. United will probably do well out of opening routes to Moscow.

A proposal for a joint meeting with Macron, Starmer and Zelensky with Trump is a very smart move from those actually seeking peace (rather than minerals). Rejection by Trump would show his true hand. He might well have to make an even more extreme demand of Ukraine today to avoid being cornered like this.

Switzerland is not a member of NATO, of course, so it won't be casting any votes. Still, the only way Ukraine will get into NATO (at least as long as Trump and his mob are in power) is if America is NOT in it. (Not that that seems so unlikely now.)

Getting lined up for the EU would of course require some action on corruption...notionally, at least...

@Fogg - ha ha, yes. That's the second time he's sold that "450k" in the last week. The Russian disinformation mob don't have their best people on this case...

Fine, get the deal done, then let's get on with strengthening Europe (including Ukraine) and freeing ourselves from all pernicious US influences and forces.

There has been no talk of UK or French troops being in Ukraine under a NATO umbrella. Whether Putin would 'accept' them being there is irrelevant: if he were to be stupid enough to kill any, his own rag-bag apology for an army would suffer enormous retaliation. All a hideous prospect, of course, but Trump has now made it necessary. Agree, though, something like Turkish peacekeepers might be better.

Trump surely won't be pushing elections right now because he knows that, thanks in large part to his own utter incompetence and hubris, Zelensky would almost certainly win by a large margin, thus wrecking Trump's plan to dismember and plunder Ukraine for its resources. The US government is more likely to do what it did to Patrice Lumumba under somewhat similar circumstances: assassinate him.

@LemonTree1 now arguing what's best for FXPO is a sure sign that the course advocated (a rapid ceasefire/surrender) would be absolutely the worst.

That said, I think we're more likely to see Trump pulling the US out of NATO than offering any security guarantees in Europe.

You're kind of right, @Minecheck - but what you and most other commentators miss here is the question of security guarantees. No leader in their right mind would sign any kind of agreement without such guarantees, and neither would it be good for FXPO or any other Ukrainian company if they did. At the moment only UK and France are committed to such guarantees, so they're hardly 'bit part' players (even if that's how Trump wants to portray them).

@sollers - not really. There's no real cost to airlines for carbon reductions for at least two years, and even then there won't be much at first. EZY is also pretty well ahead of the game on this front.

Seems likely - if not today then soon. Whether it's a buying opportunity, though...The consequences of Trump taking the US into the 'axis of evil' are so serious, it's only a matter of time before a new major war breaks out somewhere. Or possibly a coup in the US itself. All of which could spark a major global downturn.

@LoungeLizard - yes, and unless there's a solid and impenetrable border, then for sure Putin will flood Ukraine with saboteurs, disrupters, militias and special ops, such that no business or institution will be safe. Exactly as he has done with every other country that has tried to his escape his tyranny.

To my mind the best thing about the Macron-Starmer proposal is that it tests Trump's willingness to act positively now, rather than Putin's. We know for sure the latter will only use it to regroup and re-arm. My guess is Trump will reject it, simply because it was not his idea.

@JohnSilk - so you're OK to spam the forum with Putin/Trump propaganda daily, but others can't express their views and opinions? Sounds to me like you're far too steeped in authoritarianism...
