RE: CEO’s pay28 Feb 2025 16:43
I think maybe some people, albeit few, are worth millions - or should have been anyway.
Imagine if Alan Turing operated under a polarizing leader like President Trump, his genius might have been overshadowed by political bias, distrust of experts, or a preference for traditional figures. Rather than being given the freedom to transform codebreaking, he could have faced interference, skepticism, or even removal -potentially changing the outcome of World War II. Even in his own era, in the UK, his sexual orientation was merely quietly tolerated within an imperfect society.
Today, however, there is greater recognition of both talent and acceptance of diversity. In some cases, this raises the question of whether an individual’s exceptional contributions might justify earning sums like £21.6 million a year.
Conversely, Trump’s leadership often favours friends and family for key roles rather than prioritising merit, which can be seen as a sign of weakness in leadership.
