I would think it was improbable that the rollout a) to all hospitals in the NHS will not happen b) that other European countries will not want to protect new born's with this simple test.... The set up and test costs would be far less than the cost of treating a profoundly deaf child over its life time. Not for getting it is now so unnecessary for babies to be made deaf through not using this test... It then brings into consideration the legal requirements and a duty of care issue to!

If you were to say 10% of new borns in the UK were given the AILH test over the next 5 years year 1and 2 being roll out years
say an average of 75000 (10% of 750000 births) @ £80 per test so from year 2-5 £6m per annum UK only. Plus the income from the machines themselves..obviously depends on profit margin per machine ... So with a rollout in Europe and beyond. income could be in excess of £30m per year from say year 5... IMHO .....with a good headwind and a bit of luck.. The caveat is Budd up to the JOB?

If you consider how much it could cost businesses to pay sick pay whilst people are tested .. then the cost of a test if we say £30 to make sure staff are not infectious or have the virus will be seen as cheap in the long run.. covid is here to stay whatever Boris would like you to think! The onus has now switch from government to either personal or businesses to carry the cost .. speed of results is along with accuracy will be key .. especially for businesses.. the landscape of responsibility is changing .. let’s hope Budd and his team can get this message out there to the people that matter !!
