We are getting half the figures that the Dame promised but she did promise by 2026. I am sceptical that ITVX will continue to grow. It would need more investment and additional costs unless the Dame was smart and made deals to obtain rights to other networks content in the UK.

So as many of my followers here know I am an avid Radio 4 listener.

Tonight I was listening to the Now show (comedy show based on news stories) and surprise surprise the suject of Farage and his 1.5 million fee came up. ITV are now the subject of ridicule everywhere. They pay someone 1.5million and then refuse to give him air time.

Honestly the ITV management are now viewed as a bunch of clowns. Up there with Boris and his covid buffoons and Liz Truss. There are sadly no mechanisms to get these amateurs out. Parliament summoned them and they spun a pack of lies about how inclusive and caring ITV is and yet week by week they are now having to fire production staff who have abused their positions.

Please for Christmas, McCall and Lygo's P45s. Everyone is mocking ITV.

I bought back on the idea that the Dame's position is untenable. That change at the top could happen any day. The Schofield report will be the nail in her coffin. It will expose everything we have suspected for years. She is incompetent. Has no ideas. Has no clue what her direct reports are ignoring on the studio floors.

She is dragging this out. Collecting another easy 2 million since May. No report now until next year when initially we were told September 2023.

Once she goes this will be like a new parliament. Optimism and signs of growth and progess will buoy investor confidence and then it could go back to more of the same or we might have someone who is actually able to consolidate UK broadcasting and force the government to make concessions to ITV and bring C4 into the ITV family and thereby reduce postential bidders and drive down costs.

We are at the bottom now. Yes it may fall to 50p. But 80p is also realistic if the leadership changes.

Pogo what are your thoughts on the Channel 4 statement this week? Government is having to keep them afloat. Would be better for taxpayers just to hand the running over to ITV who can merge different programming from ITV2 with C4. They already make the news shows together.

I think it was 2 years ago they were talking of selling C4 for 1 billion. I think £1 now to ITV would make sense for everyone even the regulators.

All of TV in the UK is getting hammered. BBC having to make cuts to production and buy in content rather than make it themselves. Channel 4 is on it knees with a begging bowl for government funds. Audiences are just not tuning in as they once did. The big channels, BBC1, ITV and Channel 4 are no longer sustainable in their current forms with big money spent buying formats from studios who have multiple bidders.

Nobody going on I'm a celebrity should be getting more than the Prime Minister earns in a year for a 3-4 week stint in the jungle.

The government really needs to hand over Channel 4 to ITV and ask them to asset strip and then keep as many production staff in jobs rather than just pull the plug one day when they get fed up of throwing taxpayers money at it. Without C4 competing directly with ITV and bidding for shows, ITV might then get access to Gogglebox and other formats at greatly reduced prices from the studio owners. This could reinvigorate ITV briefly.

Too many bidders driving up production costs whilst viewing figures decline every year. Channel 4 has to be sacrificed and costs need to come down. ITV needs to be left as the only big player buying from UK studios.

ITV still have not published the inquiry into Schofield. Not getting released thsi year if you believe the tabloids. Last thing they need now is to re-hire someone who overlooked people he knew were abusing their position for decades.

The real big question is will the UK economy recover this time. 2008 we saw a bad hit and when you talk to recruiters they say that the jobs and wages have never really recovered despite the George Osborne smoke and mirrors of using the property market to create the illusion that the UK was prosperous again.

Hard to see that Brexit Britain has the ability to lift itself to the heights of late 90s and early 2000s where residents of our islands were doing well. Huge sums of wealth and disposable incomes. Advertising markets and spend on tv ads cannot hope to go back to the days of Cilla Black and Prime Suspect.

We can crank out the dramas and entertainment but it has to now be tailored to a global audience. UK plc is going from one crisis to another and Cameron/Osborne just bought us a brief respite by letting property speculators spend recklessly.

Smart move. I am avoiding throwing more money at this. The Channel 4 statements about their losses and the condition of the advertising market are reason to stay out for now. ITV could spend most of 2024 hovering around 50-60. High dividends at ITV can fund purchase of shares elsewhere.

Tomorrow the dividends land in our accounts. For people like me who are not set to automatically re-invest what would you counsel? Being youthful, svelte, alpha and an adonis is great but at times I need a more mature and older head to turn to. Guide me Jed. To reinvest or take the cash and run?

ITV back catalogue is great but that was the past. ITV studios now need to make for a global audience whilst utilising British locations, talent and actors. Sell to more people globally if audience numbers will decline here. Downton is a good example of how a UK drama can be sold around the world.

A modern remake of Minder could be good only throw in the added dimension of multicultural London. A British Arthur Daley who hooks up with an Albanian enforcer. Getting caught up with south American and Mexican cartels. Interpol and FBI tailing them and trying to entrap them. Maybe some stronger female characters who could be law enforcement.

The Disney news is exactly what I want to see happen. More sharing of content where ITV pickup exclusives that were only available on the streamers platforms 2-3 years after they are released. It brings new audiences to ITV and encourages those people to then sign up for subscriptions to get the more current series of the show.

Greater collaboration, lower production costs, increased revenues. Deals with every other global network to carry ITV made shows in return for their content.
