If true, there would be scope for an epic short squeeze especially if one assumes that the Greidinger Family Trust wouldn't sell or lend shares....
However, I think that the actual declared short position is only 7%, so unless there are hundreds of short positions just under the notifiable threshold, we can file this in the rubbish along with a lot of the Motley Fool product.

The equity slice of the capital structure is the residuary beneficiary of the results of the operating business i.e. the owners only get what's left after all the debt holders get their interest paid. So a small change in perceptions about how the operating business will perform over the next year has a disproportionate impact on the expectations for the value of the shares.
Add in to that thin volumes and the share price is going to be hyper volatile.
The good news is that although that means rapid falls, it also means rapid rises when the tide turns.

No idea how they get that number - declared short interest is 7.43%.
That would mean *a lot* of people with short interest under the declaration threshold.

Ignoring all the wishful thinking, conspiracy theories, yells for "Mooky to do an RNS" and general abuse, we should probably be focussing on 12 August 2021.

According to the Financial Calendar on the Cineworld PLC website, that is the date of the Announcement of Interim Results.

Doubt you'll get much before then, and that could well prove to be the inflexion point, both for a guide for actual Cine results and probably when Covid in the UK & US will be reducing to a very minor issue.

Something in Anglo Saxon, perhaps?

It's funny that when it went from 89p to 76p in 3/4 days it was all market manipulation, but 76p to 86p in 2 days is considered normal functioning of markets.
