TheFarEnd - Clearly, extensive European travel and retirement plans were never once on your agenda.
TheFarEnd
"You will all wake up one day and the things you take for granted will be gone"
Interesting. I used to enjoy free travel between, and residence in, many European countries. Then, as you say, I woke up one morning and they were gone.
bumpylane - did you mean 'identified', rather than "denied". Auto-correct perhaps?
Kernow's strategy is the same as mine. I hope they're correct with this investment.
Had a look at Kernow. Reading through their "jargon and gobbledygook waffle", they appear to be saying 'we buy into companies that appear undervalued, for long term value'.
Pippa - You've stopped taking the medication again - haven't you?
My biggest mistake in recent times is SAGA. Still holding to see what the update brings on the 27th, but should have sold long ago. A good learning experience.
Thanks Fender. Wish you well, with Lloyds, not least because I'm holding 125k myself.
Fender 5 - Didn't buy in just because a M & S store was busy, although footfall is a factor. Had a long look at the company and the wider economy in which it operates. Bought in for a medium term profit. See how it goes over the next few months.
My M&S was busy too. Just bought in. Hope I'm not too early!
MV - "The most effective way to stop crime or even reduce it is to have in place adequate deterrents in the first place, should Islam be the road we follow?"
What are you talking about?
Theo - don't have a problem with the things you mention. I'd always put what's wrong with a system against a backdrop of what's right with a system. Fraud is not acceptable but no system is perfect. Sometimes it can cost the taxpayer more to prevent fraud than is saved through its prevention. Balances and checks - sure; but even balances and checks need balances and checks.
Gazz - Reason, evidence, balance, compassion all go out the window on this chat site. Good luck trying to keep them going.
Reading the rubbish of some posters saddens me. Much of my life is spent with positive, intelligent cheery people. Some are well off, others are far from well off. They don't spend time moaning about or blaming others for their lot in life, they get on with it, helping and trying to understand others rather than deriding or demonising them. They are wise and balanced enough to know that for every one who abuses our welfare system there are many hundreds, if not thousands who use the safety net as intended then move on.
The near constant negativity of some on this chat site can drag others down. I wouldn't advocate an overly positive approach to life, but good for you in trying to inject some counter to the negative nonsense found on this site.
10 billion less shares in circulation. With an annual dividend of 2.4p, that's £240m less to pay out.
Gazz - Probably true. Although these days, and it could be something to do with age, I'm pretty much just an 'information, deal with it' sort of person. Looked at in the right way, opportunities abound. The problem I have with some on this site is that the information they impart is too one sided and selected to support their world view and/or fantasies. I tend to ignore it although do feel obliged to challenge those who degrade humanity through their posts, as I do in the real world outside this chat site. ATB
Jeez .... what is this Plato guy on?
Perhaps the guy needs to be on something! Overall, and singlehandedly, a reading of Plato's posts could increase personal depression. There's worse on this site but if you want negativity, a focus on the worst of humanity, paranoia and a sense of hopelessness tempered only by the odd 'that's life' sort of comment then Plato is for you. Pretty much a glass half empty person.
It's often twice the interim, so yes hoping for 1.6p.
Pleased how well the buyback is going. Still hoping for a below 46p average.
Looks like I was too early getting back in. Hopefully just a little too early.
Back in at 84.15p. Hope it's not too soon. Current factors weighing on RR will pass, as all thing do. Moodys see positive signs for RR, as do I.
I expect The Markets soon to start fretting about a possible windfall tax. 'Photo opportunity' Truss would probably embrace the idea. But for the moment at least, a good day for Lloyds share holders. Half-year results seem to have cheered most, including me.
No, I don't think it meaningless. Strip out exports which failed to be made last year but were made this year, then the total figure of exports to the EU would reduce. Still a record high, but perhaps not a sustainable high.
I know you'll need to have the last word to assert control, so off you go. No more responses from me.
