S - that's the way I had been recording costs, the transaction history oh HL shows total cost and sale after fees .. but online form wanted separate so I had to do it all again!
How do HMRC tell you tax you owe if you submit as an attachment? The online form gives you the figure and calculation at the end.

R - thanks for that website, I remember looking at it and starting to set my sheet up to use with it. Intended to use for 20-21 tax.

Sold COPL for 9% small profit, my DVRG are 11% up so may let them go for small profit, and SYME look to have peaked so may sell those on too and wait for the drop.

S - Thanks for the CGT reply. I've copied it into word to sort out the formatting but I get the gist.
If HMRC accept a summary for each share then not too bad, the online form asked for date of disposal and acquisition so where I sold several lots in one trade I merged the buys and pick a date, but still had detailed entries for several lots of trade like OCDO. Took ages to back track from cost / sale as form wants additional costs like Stamp and fees on a separate line!
My record keeping on spreadsheet has all the required data - name, date, share price, share number, total cost and will have to open each contract note for stamp cost and confirm fee!

While we are talking record keeping, I just did the CGT part of my tax return.

The online system ONLY has 20 disposals available, and I half filled that with my 2 months trading in the 19-20 tax year! Will be far more this year ( unless I merge all from same company? Even then likely more than 20 entries - and they seem to want dates so hard to merge many trades into one?? ).

What do you guys and gals do with the much larger number of trades over the year?

I don't have an accountant by the way!

C - if you are 3.8% down versus FTSE down 14%, I'd call that a win!

I see Plus are moving up now.... I was going to buy in at 1418, but still have some at 1434 and 1470!!
Time to sell the cheap ones I think if they go up a bit more!

Watching my PF closely as dropped on open, dithered whether to top up, now all gone back up to yesterdays price so easy money missed!

MRW gave good figures update.
Plus gave good financial update too.

T - in response to your little and often comment, I had become too used to making a profit by May last year, and set myself minimum profit of £500 or 5% ... which is why I think I held on to shares too long.... and watched them fall!

Looking at Q2 last year, I was doing lots of a couple hundred quid profits, many £60, £80 trades, and did quite well.
So reset mind and go for SOME profit not be greedy and wait for a LOT or profit; with lower trading costs even £100 is well worth it!

Still not keen on selling at a loss so would wait on those shares, but I will not tie up all capital and then not be able to trade at all!

I did OK today. Sold SNG from last week and a very quick ( 6 minutes! ) buy and sell of Plus this afternoon.
I managed to get pretty much best price on SNG sell, and on buy and sell on Plus.

Watching screens a lot, not just pop on every 1/2 hour or so, helped. Watching the movements on Plus certainly helped.

Of course I also bought Plus too early at 1434 so will sell those maybe tomorrow. Then the 1472 Plus later! Set a limit sell for a cheeky 1510 on the Plus shares left!

Used profits to top up the tiddlers like Syme and COPL as they fell.

S - you normally lead the happy club, hope you have better luck tomorrow ( after your 600%+ target beating day last week! ).

Quick 0.9% profit on Plus!!! Sold at 1429

Grabbed yet more plus at 1415 for a quick in and out! Nearly ready!!

S - better than my 1434 earlier I guess!!! Now at 1412 to buy..... and I have a tranche at 1472!

Looks like general fall across the market since lunchtime, GGP, SNG, SYME, DVRG, PLUS all down from earlier.

Ohh well, 2021 rolls on!

T - and any HL users ....... Why does HL account summary and the charts all say "Prices at market close 4 Jan 21" ...??

Is it a short day today, or just another HL glitch?
