A Civey survey commissioned by NABU showed that over 76 percent of people in Germany want cruise companies to stop using heavy fuel oil. In order to underline this demand, the environmental association is now calling for a letter of protest to be sent to the heads of AIDA, TUI, Costa, MSC, Carnival and Royal Caribbean via the campaign website, requesting them to stop using stop using the toxic fuel immediately. More than 12,000 people have already taken part. The campaign runs until December.

None that I'm aware of yet. But scaling up rapidly in the Netherlands and Singapore.

So just looking to see how much fuel oil OCP use. So p148 of their sustainability report from 2020 says 9631 Tj from industrial fuel number 2. More was used in 2019.

Those that have read my posts over the years know I'm a big fan of the firm Goodfuels. They are proactive and get things done quickly resulting in multiple trials upto now.

I wonder if Qfi have thought of a collaboration with Goodfuels in the same way we are collaborating with Aquafuels.

To address this problem, several initiatives have been developed that put consumer pressure for change in how supply chains operate at the centre. One example is GoodShipping, developed by Dutch company GoodFuels, which produces sustainable biofuels from sustainable sources such as waste products. Goodshipping calculates the amount of biofuel needed to carry a container from A to B, and then calculates the carbon emissions saved.

GoodShipping allows owners and shippers to choose sustainable fuels for their vessels or cargo. Onm 16 August, GoodFuels’ Singapore office said it had successfully supplied a NYK bulk carrier with sustainable fuel.

It can only enhance the Biofuels market and maybe help both businesses in ways we might not even thought of.

Just a few ramblings on my part anyways.

Not having a customer at the moment is a hindrance off which to promote MSAR. Once we get said customer, then we can promote it from that. We are all waiting for Morocco to start or finish whichever of the two we are at. Having a large company such as OCP promoting it gives it a stamp of approval which only gets stronger as we move towards trials with MSC, especially if Shell, BP or whoever climb onboard to produce it. That alone is like having a seal of approval I would think.

These nxt 4 months for actual action and not talking are pivotal to move forward in the timescales suggested.

Funny when the smelly stuff hits the fan all the Green agenda gets thrown out the window.

The sooner we can get a project up and running the more likely the countries that have resoryed to burning oil/HFO such as Germany Sweden, USA and now Switzerland can be convinced that using MSAR is a superior option, but until we get that first contract these opportunities seem to be sailing by.

Looking to Morocco to prove up the technology and hoping it sets the dominoes falling.

The thing is Toby, you seem to be in a minority of 1 who believes Maersk's decision to go for Methanol has a direct impact on our buisness case and SP.

We are in a great position with a number of projects about to commence and all it takes is a bit more patience .

What I don't get is you say you are a long term holder, so you would have been invested in 2018. The Maersk trial ended, the KSA trial collapsed and CEPSA had mothballed the MMU, Qfi had nothing ,nothing. We were just about to undergo a strategic review to reassess the direction of the company, yet even at this lowest of low points you continued to keep the faith and yet here we are with half a dozen projects on the go you no longer have faith in the path we are going. Dont get that at all.

If you believe that Maersk's decision has had an effect that is your perogative, but the rest of us don't subscribe to that view.

As far as I'm concerned the MSC trial is akin to an oil company thats about to spud a new well in a few months time. Everybody jumps on board at the moment of spud, not 4 months before and if Morocco happens within the nxt few weeks then they'll be jumping onboard at a higher price than now.

You have 3 choices Toby in the scheme of things

1) Sell
2) Buy more
3) Hold

Just like poker.

Also don't forget these are dual fuel engines so they won't be using green methanol exclusively

Ships capable of using alternative fuels such as methanol will likely use dual fuel engines, and that’s what Maersk’s new vessel is equipped with. Maersk intends to solely use “green” methanol, but the ship will also be capable of utilizing conventional fuels like very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) and marine gas oil (MGO), and perhaps even LNG. However, Maersk does not intend to run any of its ships on LNG, and the company’s head of decarbonization said in a recent interview, “I think it is borderline greenwashing to call LNG a transition fuel towards the decarbonization of shipping.”

Maersk also said they would never use scrubbers, but have around 1/7th of their fleet retrofitted. They claim VLSFO is environmentally friendly and is anything but. They banged on about LNG and Hydrogen and wind sails, yada yada.

Look i wouldn't worry about 200k m/t and 12 ships. Maersk will do, what Maersk will do. But don't put 2+2 together to get 5. MSC are not Maersk. Soren Toft knows exactly what Qfi and MSAR can do, he isn't as short sighted as Soren Skou. And don't actually rule out that Maersk won't use BioMsar I put nothing past these guys. But don't go sowing seeds of unfounded doubt about Qfi and its share price is stagnant because the rest of the shipping market is going the same route as Maersk, there will be multiple solutions and MSAR/BioMsar will be part of it.

MSC haven't spent nearly 2 years and all this time and manpower to say Sod it we'll go with Maersk and use green methanol that is in very limited supply for at least the nxt 10 yrs.

Yes I remembered we had trials in Sweden couldn't find the link on the Qfi website. But again its all there for the taking. A number of power opportunities lie on our doorstep that could with effort be up and running long before Mexico.

Sorry Toby, but if you believe a word Maersk say, then more fool you. These guys flip flop all the time.

Because of the simple facts. MSC are opting for Msar/ BioMsar. The fact that lots of container companies have opted for scrubbers and are still using vast quantities of HFO and most importantly Methanol production and refuelling is probably at the stage where BioMsar is now.

So how are those factors going to affect the SP now for a fuel that MAY take hold in 3-5 yrs time

Nothing to do with it. Think it more a case of wait and see. If we get news on Morocco, the SP should climb, but any SP movement due to MSC will only occur closer to the trial.

Have to agree, the news we have received should be propelling us in the other direction. I bet the Qfi team are just as perplexed as we are on this. Very Frustrating indeed.
