"The good news for people hoping to get accurate energy bills via a smart meter is that all meters will soon be enrolled into a dedicated, wireless smart meter network. At the moment, smart meters connect via existing mobile networks, which means people living in “not spots” may still temporarily need to give meter readings.

The new wireless smart meter network, operated by the Data and Communications Company (DCC), will cover more homes than are currently covered by 4G . In Ofcom’s latest Connected Nations report, just 88 per cent of premises receive data from mobile networks. The new national communications network will cover more than 99.25 per cent.

Once the new network is up and running, existing smart meters will be automatically enrolled over the air, so customers can enjoy automatically updated, accurate bills. The network is highly secure and was designed with British intelligence agency GCHQ. And because smart meters don’t connect via Wi-Fi or to the internet, homeowners are secure from the attentions of hackers."

Why would they fit a CC comm if they have no problem with cellular ....aerials are another solution to be used if they think there will be a connection problem ...no need to put a cellular and mesh in all Smet2 meters...as not bneccessary . I do hope I'm wrong but isn't the CC solution just another tool to be used if cellular plus aerial cant connect. ....imo it's going to be mostly cellular and CC used as last resort. I haven't seen anything to make me think that all Smet2 meters will have mesh incorporated ....but that would be a result if it happened.

Can you clarify why you believe that All smet2 smart meters will have sleeping CC technology. It's something I have not seen or heard of...is this something you have read or overheard.

Hi LT. But it does look like L&T along with Cadence would be in direct competition with Schneider and CC . Bearing in mind we have always thought that L&T were well invloved in the smart metering pilots and future roll out in India. Does anyone have info on to what degree Schneider are or have been involved in the indian smart meter pilots or any contracts they have won in India. I imagine the contracts won with L&T in India will eventually pass to Schneider. Cheers Vas.

From my limited understanding Tony both solutions Cadence and CC offer IOT including meters ....need someone with a technical background to identify what are the differences between both company's offerings are, if any. But L&T need a replacement solution to CC if they are selling off the Electrical & Automation business to Schneider. There's not much value if L&T sell of their goody's to Schneider only for l&T to re establish the same contracts under a different L&T arm...I'm only thinking out loud but the timing supports this.

It's interesting it's L&T Technical Services who are partnering up with cadence as L&T Electrical & Automation arm is presently being sold to Schneider. The two divisions ( technical vs Electrical Automation) of L&T will become competitors once Schneider get sale approved. CC may not be partnered to L& T after that .....but be working with Schneider who are trying to leap frog into India on the back of the L&T Electrical Automation bushines. L&T could then be a new competitor to CC via their new Cadence offering , I guess. Just a thought.

Interesting that Pete Hutton worked at Cadence as group Director .....but that was some years ago before he worked at ARM, so probably just a coincicidence.
