These are worth looking up on google/pubmed.
Silica nanoparticles bioengineered with PEI achieved x38 gene expression in murine neuroblastoma cells (Nature Jan 17). Good viability, non toxic. These particles are similar to Nuvec, and suggest this approach to a non viral vector is promising.
Also the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult Centre in Stevenage got the green light to start making new therapies in collaboration with industry/academia- there is a good video on their website
