So using Morgan Stanley's figures this Spanish contract which is a small deal should be worth £1 increase to the share price. As it's a contract with such a massive grocery chain I think it could be worth more.

Overall results have a few disappointments, will be able to look at that later in detail. Kindred systems surprisingly disappointing a little. Overall the share price should rise I believe..

Alcampo is the 2nd largest grocery hypermarket chain in Spain. They are part of groupe Auchan which is the 35th biggest employer in the world!

Massive possibilities of Auchan using Ocado further in these geographies (excluding France) if the Spain rollout goes well...

Announcement of partnership between Ocado Solutions and Alcampo

"Under this agreement, Ocado and Alcampo will initially build a Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) to serve the Madrid region from 2024, with additional CFCs to be announced at future dates. Alcampo will also leverage Ocado's In-Store Fulfilment (ISF) software across its hypermarkets nationwide to enable more efficient picking from stores. The agreement will cover both Alcampo's food and non-food business."

Great, here's hoping Ocado's latest results tomorrow bring cheer to us all.

I would suggest that by using online grocery you could then spend more time in the forest/ on the beach as I do or whatever you enjoy. Having extra real top quality family time rather than time traipsing around supermarket aisles buying the same milk, same detergent etc.

However if you are happy that's what matters.

We all have our own strategies. Hope yours works out for you. Personally I only invest in companies I use. That way I can develop a deeper understanding of them.

This article outlines some market expectations for Ocado tomorrow. Ocado group profits are forecast to first appear in 2024. What everyone is looking for tomorrow is progress towards that goal, that costs are in line with previous estimates, that current overseas partners are happy with CFC openings etc.

Fair enough Halma1983, cash will always have its stalwart supporters. However a growing number of companies including Ocado have never and will never accept cash. Cash availability and acceptance in society will continue to decline at a steeper rate post pandemic. This trend will be encouraged by the government as physical cash is open to tax avoidance and can leave no trail.

Yes, it's technologically advance as an industry. However when you add Ocado's robotics and Ai knowledge base then you have great possibilities of further streamlining processes and further optimising the vertical farm model.

Ocado, being Ocado, won't be looking to build existing style vertical farms to build next to their CFCs. They will be utilising their huge robotics/ai expertise and knowledge base to build the most technologically advanced vertical farms in the world...

I believe they are based in Scun thorpe. Don't think they supply Ocado yet. Depends when Ocados robotics can be integrated into the vertical farms. Won't be long before they start being built at CFCs..

I use my phone via Google pay everywhere. Personally I find far better than fiddling around with cards.

Another advantage with cards/electronic payment is it's harder for the staff to steal from their employers.

That's an interesting insight chilting.

Some customers would only be able to pay by cash but if you can encourage those that have the card option to use that then there's that cost saving in bank fees for you. Also a time saving as more transactions can be carried out, a big winner during busy periods. Always a chance with cash of handing out wrong notes/miscounting, that can reduce profit and increase labour costs as customer disputes are looked into. More cost saves as end of day till counts eat up labour costs. Then there's the cleanliness save. Lord knows where cash has been before it gets into your till. An issue highlighted by the pandemic. Cost saves as cash would need to be counted in gloves ideally.

I do not see these tillless grocery stores of the future changing the move to online grocery, which in my mind will continue to grow at a fast rate. What I do see though is that there will be survival of the fittest on the high street and those without the relevant technology investment could fall by the wayside.

The takeaway from this re Ocado is that Amazon clearly are absolutely upping their game in grocery. There is a similar wave of improvement occuring by Amazon in online grocery. It is vital Ocado stay on their present path and reinvest to the maximum to keep their technology ahead. The profits for the leaders of grocery stores and online grocery in the future will be huge as competitors dwindle.

That's an understandable comment Rocka999, that it won't take much for Tesco etc to follow suit. However when you experience the technology first hand many things become apparent. Some obvious, some less so.

Firstly the Amazon store tech is very, very advanced. Cameras cover customers every move and weight sensors are under each item in the store. The tech can tell when you lift an item and if you replace it later. The biggest advantage Amazon have is that most people have the Amazon app on their phone, the link up to buying in store and being billed via the app is perfectly seamless. Just one scan of your phone at the entrance is all it takes. Far fewer people have Tesco apps on their phone, fewer still have Morrisons app etc. People trust Amazon and they aren't let down by the grocery store experience, it's beautiful. For a time strapped Canary Wharf worker it is extremely attractive. I've long hated the banality of unloading items in stores in order to pay, only to reload them back in my trolley.

The data that can be gleaned from my shopping trap is a goldmine for Amazon. So for example if I pick up a shampoo then replace it later this data can be relayed to the supplier, supplier could be charged for the valuable info. For example - Unilever do you know that 2.4% of your shampoo brand x is picked up and put down by customers, far more than the average of 0.6%. Unilever then redesign packaging, sales then increase. Information such as that on average I spend 1 minute in the biscuit aisle is all new information about their individual customers that they didn't have before. The data from cameras and sensors can be dissected and monetised in so many ways.

The Amazon tech is excellent. Other grocers are developing theirs but will it be as good? What about smaller grocery chains, the costs of the technology could be too much for gem and they could then fall behind quickly. After my experience if I see an Amazon store again I would certainly shop there rather than a Tesco without this tech. It makes shopping far more enjoyable.

I think the Morrisons takeover will have little influence on the Ocado share price. The new Morrisons owners, whoever they turn out to be, will look over and scrutinise all Morrisons contracts but one area they will not want to cutback on is online grocery. So much opportunity for all the grocers to expand online, crucial to gain a good foothold in that expanding market.

After the Ocado Andover CFC fire Ocado and Morrisons mutually agreed to relax the terms of their contract. This allowed Ocado to use a good portion of Morrisons CFC allocated space and allowed Morrisons to work with other online grocers (Amazon). It looked before as though Morrisons were drifting further and further towards being integrated with Amazon not Ocado. This continues to be the case I think after the buyout of Morrisons

A few weeks ago I undertook some research and visited the Amazon fresh grocery store in Wood wharf London (near Canary Wharf). What a chilling example of the competition high street grocers will be facing now and in the future. It was a well laid out store, great range and all I did was selected my goods and walked out of the store with them . You scan your Amazon app at the entrance and are then billed via the app 10 minutes after your store visit. Amazon clearly are laser focussed on disrupting grocery retail in every aspect. This drive helps Ocado though as they, with their market leading technology are an excellent choice for other grocers to counter Amazon's threat in their relevant market.
