If you go down the withholding hospital care for certain groups route then civil unrest would be rife. I get that that's what you'd like to see but it's no way to run a country.

If the government initiated a policy re covid that withheld medical support for unvaccinated, old (75+) and infirm people in the UK then there would be huge civil unrest. Also that government would have no chance of reelection..

If a country has people in need of intensive care it cannot simply refuse that treatment on the grounds of someone being old or infirm.

Covid is such a huge problem because of the hospitalisation rate. If it just killed the amount of people it has done so far but in a short sharp manner then hospitals would be fully open, not at risk. You would get a situation where those at risk of covid would shield and those not at risk would go about their daily business.

When the hospitals start becoming overloaded then the whole system fails. Having come this far governments have to try and shutdown and block omicrons path.

The more mutations there are the better the scientific knowledge that has been gained so further chances of defeating new variants are improved.

Covid is an extraordinarily rare virus in that it ticks all boxes, very transmissible, high hospitalisation rate and high death rate.

If hospitals get clogged up with covid patients in ICU then hospitals cease to function effectively. If hospitals become full you then have a total public health emergency as hospitals are then not available to the public.

Governments have to do their utmost to be in the safe side of Omicron. Deal with it as a severe threat until more is known. If you are weak then the new variant spreads and the public will lay huge blame on whichever government underestimates the new variant.

It's omicrons possible ability to evade the vaccines that is the huge worry. Governments have to go hard on this to do their utmost to protect their population who they've spent billions on protecting. If Omicron evades vaccines and if it leads to hospitalisations then before long hospitals will be clogged up with covid patients once more. This is on top of those suffering from Delta currently

Any suggestion there are existing clauses/arrangements between Ocado group and Marks and Spencer regarding the sale of the remaining half of the JV that Ocado group own is pure speculation...
