You're trying to get a bit personal now which is unnecessary. You were wrong about me being a beginner (or a novice) investor and you are wrong about me having no money. I've done alright son. Making assumptions left right and centre reflect very badly on you.

Britain has not been a good place to invest recently. You yourself have wisely invested overseas. What this country needs is international investment. Patriotic drivel will not lift the FTSE.

I love my family and spend a lot of money on them. I'm not expecting a return on that investment. I just want to look after them. That is 'love'. What you are describing is a positive outlook on an investment which you are happy to support with your money. That's your view on a stock and you want to make a profit. What's it got to do with 'love' or any other emotion?

If you can be bothered rereading the unpunctuated OP, you'll see the this thread started of with a lot of emotional guff about the best of British and supporting Britain. You've come on here to tell us that you hold four US stocks! To say that you're missing the point of the thread is an understatement. I love my wife and kids. I'm holding RR as a potential growth stock so I can make profit. My holding has nothing to do with being patriotic or in love with RR. Sorry but those aspects doesn't belong in the investment decision making process.

Tesla is a case of simple demand and supply. Investors see it as the future and want in. That's all that's going on there. Remember the dot com boom, or more recently the bitcoin spike? Tesla is pushing boundaries and has a great future. I don't think it will go the way of dot com or bit coin but it's currently overvalued for sure. Would you bet your house on it today?

Dinvesotoy - it didn't work and my RR shares have fallen in value. What went wrong? Like most people I hate Mike Ashley and yet JD Sports is up over 5%. Why are emotions not affecting share prices? I'm confused now, please share more wisdom.

You must be right. I do now recall reading multiple analysts reports highlighting that it was shareholder sentiment and love that will drive a given company's share price upwards.

Cheers Rr101. I hope you are right about the trade deal getting over the line. The FTSE has underperformed most of the main indecies and the threat of no deal has been held out as the cause of the underperformance. I think the FTSE will get a solid boost if a deal is done and I suspect that RR will certainly be in demand.

Love doesn't pay the bills. I'm sorry but this sort of emotional nonsense has no place on a share price forum IMHO. I make investments with a view to getting the best return possible. The microeconomic and macro economic fundamentals are of interest, the Dambusters theme tune less so. I personally wished that the PM didn't mention RR because all it has done is highlight that the company is going through a difficult time. Why draw more attention to it, It certainly didn't do the SP any favours? The PM should focus on getting a deal with the largest and most accessible market on our doorstep, rather than banging on about how we will prosper under no deal. Nobody rational sees that slamming the door on one of the biggest trading blocks in the World is good for business. I don't think the new US administration will be impressed either so we're hardly staring prosperity in the face. Wasn't it Obama that said we'd be at the back of the queue for a trade deal? Well, his former Vice President is about to take over. Rule (Billy No Mates) Britannia? Let's leave emotion out of the picture and focus on issues that affect the SP.

foy585 - appreciate that but you haven't just shared the fact that you have an appointment. You stated that the Pfizer vacine WILL be approved next week Tuesday and that all NHS staff, care workers and care home patients WILL be vacinated before Christmas. That's Mystic Meg territory! Presumably your appointment next week is only provisional assuming that the vacine approval is forthcoming?

foy585 - you work in the NHS and therefore know that all NHS staff care home workers and care home residents will be vacinated in just over three weeks from today? You know an awful lot. Could you take a stab at the Euromillions numbers for us? Tah.

Dumb punter - Brexit has already had a huge impact on international investment into the UK. Also, a company such as RR, which generates a lot of revenue overseas, is not immune to currency movements. These sort of things do affect share prices.

Ah, ask the audience. I take it you still have your 50:50 and phone a friend if you're still unsure. You do really only have yourself to blame if you suffer a large drop! I'm going to say a deal will not be done and the market is going to end up in a right old mess for a week or two. It's just a guess based on the strategy (or lack thereof) of the UK government so far. Please DYOR and take your own view. It's anyone's guess TBH and I sincerely hope that my view proves incorrect.

There will be an update from RR next month which will provide some meaningful insight into the company's outlook. Tha Daily Mail just want to flog newspapers with alarming headlines.

In the short term I suspect that the simple answer is that the SP for RR will fall, probably outpacing the fall in the FTSE 100. The impact on Sterling will play a large role in any price movement but market sentiment will rule the day. Long term? Well that is a whole different can of worms.
