It feels a little like a game of poker between the Chinese and DCCAE. Who will show a card first? I've said before that it beggars belief that Govt almost seems to want a project to fail, such is the red tape that's been put in its way. Will they issue the appropriate assessment determination before the 19th? Will it be positive? And, what could possibly be taking them so long given they've already issued the permit, and are only re-doing the whole thing because of some technical procedural errors - made by DCCAE. I think it's a little unfair to be abusing TOR about this snarl up. PVR are stuck in the middle, and not in the driving seat.

They have now already taken around two weeks longer to issue the appropriate assessment determination than they did for CNOOC. I'm not sure whether they are waiting to see if APEC cough up, or for the Dail to go into summer recess so Brid can't denounce the Govt in the chamber (although she still can and will in the twitter echo chamber). Bit surprised really that the Govt would be so hesitant to progress a project that is unequivocally to the benefit of Ireland. But it's strange times we live in, with a strong apparant urge to demolish the pillars of our modern lives, that would be the envy of our forebears.

Apologies for not posting this earlier, I've had an awful family bereavement to deal with. Firstly, DCCAE take ages to respond - weeks. I asked them some time ago whether I could get an alert for when their appropriate assessment determination would issue. I gt a reply on Weds, saying: "Apologies but we are unable to provide an update in relation to this matter as it remains under assessment by the Department's Environmental Advisory Unit. Please note that once a decision is made, it will be published on the Department’s website at the link below:"

The Chinese must think we are completely insane, stalling a development project with clear and unambiguous economic benefit, to appease the likes of Brid. On the other hand, it helps clear the board for their rise to dominance.

Would be nice to see them pull their feckin fingers out, and support the Irish economy, jobs, and energy self-sufficiency by doing their bit and issuing the appropriate assessment determination. The guidance given in the 5 June RNS was site survey inQ3 (which we are now in, just), and drilling in Q4. So after the interminable delay in getting the permissions, I'm hoping things will start moving quite rapidly, with mobilisation etc.

It would be very illuminating to know who 'APEC's funder' actually is.

It's been a good recovery. Unfortunately we've only just got back to where we should have been when the good news started coming. Plenty of running room. Appropriate Assessment determination, should be positive. Confirmation that the APEC funding has cleared. Site survey permit issues. Then mobilisation.

Wow, it's going mental now. 1.68 paid. On the other hand, never though we'd drop below 2p. It could double when DCCAE give the green light, and double again when APEC cough up.

If, say, the green party developed a bacteria that ate fossil fuels, and released it so that from tomorrow morning there were no fossil fuels left, then, sure, there wouldn't be any more CO2 as released by humans (as opposed to naturally) being released into the atmosphere. But civilization as we know it would immediately collapse, and billions would die. Realistically, we need to use our remaining reserves as efficiently as possible to manage the transition to renewables. It has to come anyway, we don't have an infinite supply of fossil fuels. But let's do it sensibly, instead of in a hysterical frenzy.

No chance that Brid will shut up, but the Government's statement on why they blocked the Bill was pretty solid. Wonder why they didn't grasp this nettle earlier. Anyway, this is very good news. I hope we now get the Appropriate Assessment Determination today. And that it is positive.

Mamms, I think it will be, no approval, no cash. But I wouldn't put it past DCCAE to keep dithering and delaying in the hopes that APEC pull out, and the drill proposal gets long grassed again. It would help them avoid more howls of outrage from Brid. And playing to the 'climate emergency' crowd seems to be more politically in vogue than playing to the 'keep the lights on, trains running, and food in shops emergency' crowd who will surely be springing into action if the climate crew get their way.

Either that or its a new leg down. To some unfathomable bottom.
