For the first time in history, the Mtwara Port is expected to begin receiving modern machinery and equipment for the implementation of a large-scale natural gas extraction project in the Nanguruwe area, Mtwara Region.
The move came after a delegation of businessmen and leaders of ARA Petroleum Tanzania paid a special visit to the Mtwara Port with the aim of satisfying themselves with the port's capacity to handle large shipments of the project's machinery starting in August, 2026.
Speaking immediately after the visit, the Manager of ARA Petroleum Tanzania, Mr. Hilal Al Hinai, said the aim of the visit was to assess the port's infrastructure, equipment and efficiency in handling heavy and bulky cargo.
"We have visited the Mtwara Port to satisfy ourselves with its capacity to handle large shipments of gas extraction machinery. We are satisfied with the existing infrastructure and preparations," said Mr. Hilal.
He explained that starting in August 2026, the company expects to start receiving ships that will carry equipment for the project, where each ship will have more than 1,000 tons of machinery and various equipment that will be used in gas extraction in the Nanguruwe area.
For his part, speaking on behalf of the Mtwara Port Manager, Head of Marketing Department, Mr. Faraji Mbulalina, he invited more investors and traders to use the port, explaining that it has great capacity to handle various cargoes efficiently.
Mr. Mbulalina said that the Mtwara Port has continued to improve and currently has concessions in port charges, enabling infrastructure, modern equipment as well as skilled and highly skilled human resources, making it the right choice for large strategic projects.
