This should quash rumours of a BA bailout. IAG can and will weather this storm, and are best equipped to. An opportunity of a generation to stake build at these levels. If it goes lower, I will buy more. Just think in 2 years time.....

Nobody saw this coming! The uk govt are by far the most prudent in actually tackling this virus. Herd immunity coupled with isolation for the sick and vulnerable is the only way forward from this whilst causing the least economic damage. Boris may not be popular now, and the population are ready to lynch him; but boy does he have this one right.

I myself will be lynched for saying this...but let's have a decent discussion as opposed to blanket statements. We all know solg are looking for debt financing...which relies on banks lending money. What do we think about banks lending to solg considering the world will most certainly be contracting after this? I know world governments are throwing money at banks to keep them lending, but what are others opinions of this and the likelihood of a credit crunch.

Only down 3.5% haha. But low oil price environment will certainly go some way in mitigating coronavirus fallout. Has to be good for struggling airlines. And iag are less exposed to hedges so should really stand to benefit from this

Rubbish! Clearly someone missed the bottom! Shell has been in the 1200s before 4 years ago. I remember that oil was flirting with low 20s and on the verge of high teens!

Low and behold.....shell never cut the dividend! It will be a dark dark day indeed before shell decides to cut its dividend, even at the crazy yield now....because this is short term!

Shell are much leaner than before, and a lot of oil has been hedged and forward sold at much higher prices than now. People seem to forget this

Hmm I'm not so sure about that. I think it has only been priced in partially for lloyds. UK are not as knee jerk as USA and dont have someone like trump breathing down their neck so rate cuts are no guarantee here. 50/50 chance of rate cut now, so if it happens surely it will drag bank stocks down further.

Rate cuts cant directly help of course, but they certainly can help indirectly in terms of cheap money for businesses that are struggling and giving the impression that all is okay therefore helping consumer confidence. Whether that is right or wrong that is another arguement, but people panick when stock markets drop and that causes problems in itself, and causes a shortage of loo rolls in this case.

However at this price, anyone with an outlook of more than 6 to 9 months can clearly see that Lloyd's in the 45s is a steal. Is this the lowest...mabye not. Is this the highest...definitely not.

Crazy new lows here. I think we are below post brexit result lows now. Been reluctant to enter bank stocks because of the low interest rate environment, now this virus is the perfect excuse to keep them low for the foreseeable future.

But what a bargain for anyone with a medium term outlook! Huge cap gains to be made plus divis! I'll be waiting until 26th and mr bailey to decide whether to drop the rate another 25bps, but this is a fantastic opportunity every investor shouldnt overlook!

So you are saying china is lying about the dramatic decline in new cases? No...i don't think so. I have many good friends in China, all going back to work next week. The situation has certainly improved there.

China got so bad in the first place because they left it unchecked for a month, and it was amidst the greatest pilgrimage of human beings in the world...Chinese new year. Cases were probably in the 10's of thousands before any action was taken.

Yes, china took some extraordinary lengths to control it, but Europe or US wont need to do the same as we caught the virus and commenced action from its onset; single digit cases! Such drastic action shouldn't be necessary as I'm sure it wont reach the highs of china cases.

Latest news out of Wuhan....no new cases! It appears as though flu can and has declined. It may come back as a seasonal thing like influenza...but that won't stop the world spinning.

Certainly is worrying, but boy are there some panic merchants out there. Comparing this to the financial crash...wow i have heard it all now. The language NM uses,in particular the rns dated 8th feb's open statement certainly implies that he took very personal the sudden rejection (3 hours) of the offer. I think this has definitely got personal between the two companies. They were openly dissing each other in the rns's. There is no way NM will back down. He will force CGP and squeeze them to surrender the 15% no matter what the cost, and NM certainly has the upper hand.

This spat is of course at the expense of both holders of SOLG and CGP who have seen a significant decline in value

A trader using an iceberg order type to push down the price. Then he buys back in one chunk with a small loss. Then they wait for other traders to sell as their screen goes red. SP ticks down and the trader buys big, i.e the 16:06 buy. Easy to manipulate like this with such low volumes and make a couple of percent.
