@HHH there’s a simple solution. Everyone cuts tariffs . I’m a proponent of as few tariffs as possible and let the consumer decide

There are several economic stories here all in play

1. Massive US trade deficits

2. Massive US debt

3. Trump’s desire for much lower interest rates to enable him to refinance said debt.

4. Trump’s desire to onshore manufacturing to create jobs.

5. Trump’s desire to have far lower tax levels

If he gets this right, it’s boom time because a strong US means a strong UK.

The first number is tariffs imposed by the country mentioned , the second is the tariff imposed by the US but this is all Trump’s fault? If I was American I’d want some answers big time as to how this was allowed to stand

You haven’t dealt with Terry’s central point. Tariffs imposed on the US and the current US debt standing at 37 trillion which needs refinancing this year.

The levels of debt in the system are so high that they have to be brought down particularly in the US which is running unsustainable deficits. The US will also dramatically reduce income tax

Ofcourse there is a simple solution. Countries around the world should reduce their tariffs

This is not the ultimate play-you will soon see a number of countries reaching deals on tariffs. The ultimate play is the refinancing of the US debt at much lower levels.

There will be some short term pain Im sure. But whilst everyone is looking at tariffs , the true economic games are going on elsewhere

As I said trump is looking for lower interest rates to fund long term us debt and I gladly welcome lower interest rates in this country and around the world. That will be good for CPI. The days of big surpluses is over so you better get used to it and it’s now up to countries around the world to shrink the state.

Quite frankly some of the trade deficits the US has been running are astronomical. Would we run them?

And it’s very simple if all other countries cut their tariffs so will the US . Let the consumer decide what products they want to buy, based on quality and price
