That sort of story could ignite like a tinder dry forest. No guarantees that its true or that it will though.

There's no shortage of car producing plants in Russia and no shortage of foreign carmakers either so there's precedent. If it is true that Tesla are considering setting up a car producing plant there you'd have to expect them to be looking to source the raw materials locally as well. NN are hardly ESG compliant but a new nickel sulphide mine could be.

Very much a long shot with only a fraction of 1% likelihood of positively effecting Amur but you never know. In the news vacuum we inhabit a fraction of 1% is better than a fraction of no percent.

Nickel stocks have just taken another big step down falling by 3,204 tonnes today. The total in the LME now stands at 166,788 tonnes.

Stocks down by 27,678 tonnes since the start of the month. With 7 more days to go before the end of September somewhere between 35,000 and 40,000 tonnes for the month looks feasible.

And the whole EV/battery thing is all really only just starting.

FG, you can view the issue, IMO, in one of two ways.

a) Human activity is not causing irreversible climate change but the lobby that claims that it is wins the argument which results in vast and seemingly unnecessary expenditure to reduce CO2 emissions. The upshot of that? We’ve spent a whole load on money we didn’t need to spend resulting in higher taxes but at least we end up with clean air to breath.

b) Human activity is causing irreversible climate change but the lobby that claims that it isn’t wins the argument resulting in no action to reduce CO2 emissions. The upshot of that? Continued burning of fossil fuels, increased air pollution, an increase in global temperatures leading to a whole variety of feedback loops increasing temperatures even further ultimately resulting in global catastrophe.

I’ve got kids. I’d much rather not gamble with their future and accept the consequences of taking action now to reduce atmospheric pollution, higher taxes, than do nothing and risk their future. In my opinion there really is only one sensible choice. There may be other options.

With 2/3 of the month gone the amount of nickel that's left the LME is 24,474 tonnes. If this rate of depletion continues for the remainder of the month that figure should touch 35,000 tonnes which would leave apporximately 160,000 tonnes in the exchange.

Demand for Class 1 nickel is only going to go one way in the immediate to near term.

Interesting presentation. Only referring to Araguaia 1 is a bit disingenuous but then again, they're talking their own book so I guess that's to be expected. It also raises the question, what else have they been selective about?

Fickle nickel seems to be having another one of its periodic schizo runs up. Back up over $9/lb and nudging $20,000/tonne at present.

Stocks in the LME continue to fly out the door as well. On current rates of depletion the month will end with just under 40,000 tonnes having left the LME in September with around 155k tonnes left. At an average depletion rate of 40,000 tonnes per month the LME is going to run dry before long.

Time to start pushing Vermelho, if they aren't doing that already?
