A&E is always a long (triaged) wait.
Operations on prostate issues are many and varied.
Depends on whether it is just enlarged, or if it is cancer, whether it has spread beyond 'the capsule' or not. That takes investigation and more appointments to determine the issue.
Delicate nerves (which may never recover) and blood supply vessels, have to be considered in any removal surgery, but 'contained' cancer can also be tackled by 'lady' hormones, which render the patient prone to sweats and subject to monthly injections.
If I were diagnosed with prostate cancer, which had not yet spread, would I choose removal surgery or chemical castration over many years?
How would I be advised?
Surgery has risks of complications and inability to ever recover sexual function again whereas chemical injections also prevent normal function, for the duration and probably longer.
You would have to talk to a consultant and take the latest advice, considering your age and condition.
If it has spread beyond the capsule, you are looking at possible spinal damage and eventual inability to walk unaided.
Chemotherapy may be too aggressive to bear and you are left with a poor outlook.
Mentally strong but physically weak.
I wonder why men don't receive invitations to have early tests at a certain age.
Women have breast-screening!
Not something i would wish on anyone.
