At the Conservative Conference the current Chancellor Phillip Hammond was heard to say "That we must rebuild capitalism" and this was broadcast on the Channel 4 news this evening.
You have to wonder what really happened to our late lamented twins Cameron and Osborne who presided over the creation and expansion of our "New Knowledge Based Economy." Huge numbers of people employed in so called "Service" industries, mostly financial and insurance based which seem to cost more and more to run like the railways where ONLY the directors seem to make any decent money and then usually have a bonus tacked onto it.
If these services were really socially useful they could be run profitably, which would allow for payment of interest on capital employed and would allow their workers to spend money on the high streets. Naturally I would also expect the appropriate rates of tax and insurance to be paid so that real and important public services could be financed.
A proper economy works when real jobs are created that do not depend entirely on the home market, because what they have to offer cannot find a market elsewhere but are maintained OR WERE at the expense of the shareholders anyway but make no return.
Since we dropped anchor here we have not received ONE nuisance call - if we want to arrange insurance we have to contact a broker or an insurance provider in this economy that seems to work much better - supporting more CASH in circulation than would be seen in the UK outside the London bias..

Well that certainly stirred things up and showed really who our friends really are - so much better than reflecting on the scale of the drop that we have witnessed since last week - or was I dreaming?
It's an Irish saying and a true one - "it takes an old dog for the hard road."
I will however be looking for an improvement both in sentiment and value for this share now that the prospect of self immolation is receding. The Labour Conference today was most interesting - the cracks in their Brexit unity begin to widen with Keir Starmer giving voice to the REMAIN WISH of many in the party - now that they are beginning finally to understand what casting the country adrift from Europe really means.
The Gig economy and the multi globals, so beloved in The City, do not pay wages large enough to allow for Union dues and feeding yourself whilst trying to keep some type of roof over your head. Not that I have that much sympathy for British unions when we remember the 70's. The Colleen supported Unite with monthly dues - on two occasions she called on them for assistance - she is still waiting.
The ice is cracking, hope is but a trickle yet, next weeks Conservative Conference promises to be quite interesting as some of the characters start to sweat.
They cannot call an election, because they could not win it - the DUP must really have their bicycle clips on - in case an election is called with so many of them in danger of not even being recognised "when they have been On Strike for so long".
Winter is coming, but so is the Spring when somebody will have to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat or prayed for divine intervention - not very likely up here - but change is coming "I just feel it."

X4 is a kindred spirit of many of us who were in London in the late 60s early 70s - he knows all the pubs and all the dance halls that were operating in those days - many a good match was made in those days and mine still endures.
If you weren't there you cannot understand what London was like in those days - when Big Tom came the girls all dressed up to dance amongst a crowd of up to 1,000 on a great night.
The Craic was fantastic - memories were made that are still good to remember for me and X4.

and the investment sentiment is more favourable - we usually discuss it - at the moment where is the positive news ??

Good man yourself X4 great to hear from you and to learn that you are continuing the fight - our present home (rented since last January) is four minutes from the church, where we attend each morning. Along with my many reflections I have included you since our exploratory visit a year last May when we attended my nieces wedding in Druids Glen.
Our new residence is nearing completion, but is about fifteen minutes walk along the flat to the "chapel," as they call it up here, which is fine as long as it's not raining, because Newcastle is noted for the wind that blows nearly all the time.
I spent today and yesterday with a rake in my hand - for the second time - preparing the ground for the turf laying - it was supposed to have been done, but you know what builders are like. The man on the JCB thought flattening it with the bucket was perfect - well he flattened it anyway.

I am going to light a candle - because it is a very long time since we heard from X4 - it is also the only way it seems that we can address the deepening crisis that continues to develop like the recent storm. A small flickering light does not seem much, but it is all we seem able to do whilst we watch the El Al pilot crash his plane into his brother in laws scrap yard.

It's only a small light, but it's all I can do whilst I sit over here listening to the news and the drums here that keep "thundering" - Yeh'r right - just like being in a holiday camp.

What you speak of is known only to well to me after thirty years in the West Country - when I was living there we regarded London as a foreign destination much changed from when I lived there almost fifty years ago.
Once the contagion started to spread we decided along with many of our friends that it was time to leave - I have seen many changes over the years - few of them have been for the better.
If the lights go out - we won't see it rom here.

Welcome and an interesting comment - as you can see from the foregoing this is a good forum for the exchange of views - they have put up with me for the last ten years, which goes to prove that there is still such a thing as free speech.
We do occasionally ruffle a few feathers and there are somewhat intemperate contributions now and again when somebody wants to have a rant about shrinking populations due to failing reproductive capacity and invasions of Muslims into Europe by someone who never visited Bradford or Leicester not to mention many of the small mill towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire who have had large migrant populations for years. Then there is London's east end and many of the boroughs which make up what is left of The Empire, best represented in Southall and Cricklewood. Maybe we are seeing the re-birth of the Ottoman Empire - who knows.
The Conservative Conference starts next week, which will pass another few days "Lost in the FOG" - Theresa will still be there at the end of it - because nobody else has as strong a stomach - no doubt Goldilocks will put in an appearance as he seeks to re-establish his presence within a party that is fast disintegrating so far as I can see.

Have just watched Question Time, at the late time that it is broadcast here and am baffled by FOG that seems to reside between peoples ears in Britain.
A second vote is being resisted and fatuous arguments advanced as to why it should not take place, when the first vote was meaningless, it was based on a foundation of lies but backed by lots of money.
It is really quite worrying that the broad mass of the British people are so gullible that they actually voted for Brexit in the first place - they used to be renowned they said for their common sense..
I am not happy with everything in Europe, but I am very much persuaded in favour of its broad objectives - its just the wasteful nature of many of its public representatives.
This attempt to seriously undermine it as an institution should not be allowed to succeed, because it has been of great benefit to many of the country's in Europe not least England and the West Country particularly Cornwall.

Our share is rising which seems to have hypnotised some of our posters or maybe it is the same problem that I have had for the last couple of days - press on the search button for BIRG and nothing happens.
Big wind starting here tonight and scheduled for most of the AM - quieting by Thursday which is good because I am visiting the links with my new driver.

"Northern Ireland is a Tinder Box" is it - well the Colleen and I are living here and we have not noticed any strong tremors recently even though we have had The Orange Men join twice now since since July. The last time was last Saturday night, when people are out for the night and may have taken a drop of lotion, they passed down the full length of the town making their appalling racket and then marched back up it.
Nobody threw so much as an egg, the whole thing passed off peacefully because it is the settled will of the people here, that we have to live with them and hope that they will grow out of this Boys Brigade mentality. The ones making the most noise are the ones who have no conception of what a "Hard Brexit" will mean or realise what it will mean for them. Their many years sucking on the UK Teat, particularly in Ballymena, Portadown and Lisburn where they are still dominant electorally, have made them very complacent - they just cannot imagine that anything is going to disturb the previous status quo - when they could still do exactly as they pleased.
There was a time when nobody could imagine Paisley sitting down with McGuinness, much less forming a government, but they did and it performed for long enough to give the people here a taste for peace. I am sure they have no wish to return to the black days of the late seventy's, because in spite of everything the real economy is going quite well.
The public service building contracts will however be a problem for many of the large number of people who depend on them, when there are no Ministers to authorise the commencement of the works. Forward contracts are drying up and it is causing some alarm to the many who are able to dispense patronage at the expense of the British Tax Payer.
Martin - our share has risen recently, but I cannot think that it is due to the better performance of the bank but it might have something to do with the current weakness of Sterling which I am sure is being managed in the background.

Radar put it plainly - NO - no doubt influenced by the ongoing Brexit saga - what a waste of public money when you throw in a General Election that we were not going to have and all this flights around Europe by everybody.
Meanwhile the drums continue here - we had a two hour visitation here on Saturday night by about twenty "BANDS" who collectively made an awful racket between 8 and 10 in the evening. Why they call them bands, as in the military sense is beyond me, when the lunatic that dances about in the middle of them thrashing the big drum, drowns everybody else out.
Talk about fiddling while Rome burns.
Nice to see the uplift today and hope that these may settle as the new low.

Still here and just looking in after our 5K Parkrun - we don't actually run of course because we are in the highest age bracket.
Have not contributed much recently, not because I am getting lazy but because we have spent a very pleasant week being grandparents, followed by a weekend preparing the ground in our new back garden so that the turf can be laid. Our house will be ready in about four weeks and it is moving along nicely - once the kitchen is fitted we'll be there.
So far as our dear little share is concerned - maybe we need to put it in a Growbag.
Have not played a lot of golf but will get out next week - once we are settled, normal service will resume.

Do not take any notice of cranky posts - it is not as bad as losing the faith.

No - I am not a great fan of shocks and scares - my investments have been in property and have done quite well over the last thirty years - once I got rid of the bank.

I bought this share for a bit of fun back in 2008 or was it 07 never having been really interested in the world that the City boys inhabit. Over the years we had a few of them in Torquay and the West Country - after they had reached their sell by date or just plain retired because they got bored they said "with just making money."

The rough and tumble of the real world and playing with their own money did not suit them, because when you lose you have lost. Which is why I think so many people go in for the Penny Shares which I have learnt can be great fun if they happen to jump rather than slide.

Don't you worry yourself Martin, travel may be free for us throughout the country, all 32 county's, but you feel every bump in the road and the services are not that frequent. What we plan to do is drive to Newry and train it from there once our house is sorted for Christmas in our new home with the family around us.

We didn't come over here with the sock half full - we were under budget for the house and the work so buying my next car will not be a problem at all - now that I have found a proper mechanic. One of my new neighbours has returned from Harrow after forty years away, he doesn't play golf but he does drink Guinness so we are turning his garden shed into a pub " The Duck and Hut. "
