I recently challenged a regular purveyor of nonsense on here to back up his comments with analysis (which has yet to be forthcoming). In the interests of fairness I should probably share mine. Three points were made without any reasoning by the poster to whom I am responding: 1) there would be a 20% correction in the overall market 2) Copper was going to tank and 3) Rambler would head back down to 30p.
Let's start with number 1. I don't know whether the 20% drop is predicted worldwide or just for the UK, but it is worth noting that the Dow is currently almost 30% ahead of where it was on 31/12/19 despite Covid, whereas the FTSE is actually lower today than it was on that date. There may be some profit taking across the Atlantic but I can't see the FTSE going down to 6000 without some serious further problem with Covid. In fact a number of large companies in the leisure and telecoms sectors, which make up a decent proportion of the FTSE 100, are likely to rebound as we come out of the pandemic.
Moving on to copper, I see no case for thinking that other than the usual start of the year surplus which may bear down on the price, there are any other factors likely to keep it below $9000 a tonne for long. Economies, notably China (despite the Evergrande fiasco), will power ahead as they fully re-open keeping demand for copper and other basic resources high.
On to Rambler itself. Trying to extrapolate much from overall market trends and overlay that data onto individual companies listed on AIM is a mug's game. A poor RNS (May 7th) and down she goes. A good one (29th Oct) and off we go in the opposite direction. Even if there is a 20% drop on the FTSE I cannot see this impacting Rambler unless there is another negative company specific event. As for copper dropping, I am assuming that a new hedge is close to being agreed meaning that for the duration of that hedge, the amount of our output covered by the agreement will be unaffected.
I may be wrong about all of the above but rather than just make throwaway, unsubstantiated predictions, I thought some 'analysis' might be helpful.
