That about sums it up Imperial.. There wouldn't be much attraction to living off grid in UK though. Apart from solar, which would only part suffice, all others have some form of noise attached, so you would need to live on a farm with a barn if you did not want constant neighbour problems.
I have said this before but in my past life part of my brief was to plan for the unknown, not easy.
For convenience we need the Grid system but improved power stations. I had a plan which I put forward to a main Utility a few years back but it did not suit their disjointed approach because it meant they would have to rethink part of their operations.
The actual idea was clean, eco, cheap and self sustaining but it was only an idea and they like to be up to patent level, (which being a layman I have no skills for) and it was only a theory. It will probably go by the board now but was a gap filler for the next 20 years until they beat the problem of Nuclear Fusion.
Too much time on my hands, LOL.
