RE: PSA Test5 Oct 2023 15:40
Marcus, you will have seen from my posts yesterday that my ex partner had prostate cancer, he had a high reading, but the NH were exemplary, he had the blood test, result back next day and discussions with doc, saw the consultant the following week, and was operated on two weeks later and given the all clear. The NHS can't afford to provide all and sundry with a £750 test, it just won't happen, they have to prioritize and that is based on medical need, so a more aggressive cancer in a younger person say, will no doubt take precedence over someone older with a less aggressive cancer. I'm not making light of prostate cancer, but the survival rates are much higher and so the risks are less in treating more aggressive cancers first I imagine. If you want a £750 test then I would imagine you either pay for it yourself if you think your life is worth doing that for, and I would imagine therefore that you would, or you ask your health insurers if they will pay for it, but then your premiums will rise on the next anniversary of your policy no doubt! The NHS cannot afford to pay out willy nilly, and at £750 a shot, and I don't know if that includes processing costs at a private lab or not, I would imagine you would pay, and I think that's only right, otherwise you accept what the NHS is able to provide, given its limited funding, or you accept that you must pay far higher taxes so the govt can try and funnel some more funds in to it. my views.
