Sebo I'm not undermining the awfulness of the cancer itself, far from it, it's just that the survival rates are purportedly far higher for prostate cancer than for many other cancers out there. There has to be a pecking order, you can't treat everything with the urgency it might need, and those with private policies really should free up beds for those who don't have the luxury, but unfortunately, private health insurers pay you a nightly cash rate if you opt for NHS treatment rather than the cost of a private bed, even though you hold a policy! And don't even start me on health tourists, because that really grates me, if this govt actually did something to charge those from abroad for treatment, especially now that we have left the EC, then we could claw a lot of money back, but its too late, as many have already availed themselves of our 'free' services and returned to their homelands. I know of someone whose mother needed heart surgery in Africa, she couldn't afford it, so the daughter arranged for her to come over here, she was then mysteriously taken ill the next day after arrival, ambulance called, and to be on the safe side, the NHS did the surgery! No bill, no insurance cover, nothing paid, yet not a citizen of this country. We are advised to take health insurance out when we travel, so why don't we claim on those visiting here and utilizing our services? Just annoys me.
