“Are your investments just trades that went wrong or do you believe that investing stands a better chance of success?”
I think everyone’s trades/investments go wrong in an index that is lower now than 21 years ago. The thing with stock markets; to make money you have to rely on them to rise. If the Dow has performed at the same level as the ftse since 1999 It would be about 8600 points now. Instead of 26,000.
So, my view now, since things have changed dramatically over the last few years, is to pick stocks up dirt cheap for dividend income, and hopefully break even when you sell (plus the dividends of course) which isn’t even when historical valuations are at an all time low, and still plunging.
I’m sure you’re aware of the ftse perennial underperformance and what a catastrophic investment it has been for the past two decades. And if anything it’s getting worse, good companies are marked down for chump change by the monkeys in the city.
We’ve had a lot of financial scandals over the past few years and market maker collusion and manipulation will be the next one to break. itll be on Panorama sooner or later...
