You say that you, "claim no great expertise", but, unless you explain, very clearly, what you mean by your comments, just about everyone, maybe apart from the usual de-rampers, will give you any time, whatsoever!

IMHO, there is no doubt, whatsoever, 100% (100% plus, just for those, mostly social media, that still don't understand 100%) that, one way or another, we're going mining at Havieron!

I genuinely understand, and appreciate, the frustration of many investors. Believe me, I am too, at times. However, what I can't really understand is the ongoing, and increasing negativity in some of the threads in this forum.

When I think about it, I can hardly believe that we're probably now only around 12 months away from the first stoping at Havieron. Yes. 12 months! It's unbelieveable, in normal mining terms, to have accomplished so much, so fast!

It seems like there is more negativity now, as we approach stoping, very soon indeed now, than ever before. You have to ask why exactly?!

The gold & copper are still there, and the resource is increasing daily! We're now almost certainly looking at a second, or more mines, to also cover bulk mining, even with increasing pods of higher grade being found, and that's just now, let alone what's still to be found!

Not long to go now, and I'm pretty certain that we'll see some big moves north over the next, very short, 12 months, or so!

With geo-political volatility and inflation on the up, it's hard to shun gold. The precious yellow metal has been on the rise of late, perhaps inspiring consolidation of gold miners while firms jostle to secure first dibs at the world’s most lucrative gold projects. It’s the case for Newcrest Mining – the Australian gold miner recently receiving an all-share offer from US giant Newmont Mining.

Consequently, it is hard not to be bullish on the firm’s outlook. Despite a balanced portfolio of assets, solid cash flows, and corporate expansion, some of the underlying issues with the deal appear concealed.

An absence of corporate leadership married with an all-share proposal may be an opportunistic play for Cadia, among other assets, rather than a genuine opportunity for equity holders. I remain bullish on Newcrest Mining but unconvinced as to whether Newmont Mining’s corporate courting of the Australian player represents lasting shareholder value...

Firstly, many thanks Dip, top job!

I think it's pretty clear that, despite Sherry Duhe pushing the analysts back somewhat, that they want more disclosure on the growth projects, and maybe sooner than Newcrest would like. My gut feeling is that Newcrest may now be 'forced' into releasing this, sooner rather than later.

As she states, "The next two off the block, as you mentioned, would be Red Chris and would be the Havieron optimization, and that work is ongoing with priority. And as soon as we have that information, we'll be releasing that to the market as well."

If the markets were to react especially negatively to the 'delays' in getting this information, then I just feel that they may well be 'forced' to release this sooner.

Sherry Duhe mentions about Havieron:

"The nearby Havieron project provides significant optionality to further leverage the existing Telfer processing infrastructure. Havieron has been a great exploration story, and we continue to assess several opportunities to maximize value and derisk the project through the feasibility study."

"And as you know, we're always looking to expand our existing assets through exploration success with our key focus areas right now, being Red Chris, Brucejack and Havieron. As I highlighted earlier, strong drilling results across these key areas continue to support our view for significant resource growth potential. We're actively looking to grow our copper portfolio in particular. And that progressing our search for the next Tier 1 copper and gold assets, working with the best partners to capture the best ground while leveraging our exploration capabilities and unique mining technical expertise."

Question From Daniel Morgan:

"Yes, I understand. Just a follow-up, would you consider either a sale of Havieron or Telfer? I mean that's a Tier 2 asset according to your map. And/or your stake in London Gold, which although that is going very, very well, might be attracting a holding company discount in your structure?"

Answer From Sherry Duhe:

"Thanks, Daniel. You're definitely fishing here. Look, I think what I can say is that we continue to focus on our strategy, which is a great strategy. We've got a fantastic portfolio assets and growth projects. We are very focused as much as we've ever been on capital discipline and really rigorously looking at our growth opportunities to make sure that if they are to progress, they meet our hurdle rates.

In the case of Telfer and Havieron, we've got this optimization study that will really inform our future steps not only for Havieron, but Telfer in the wider Patterson province. And obviously, we continue to look at our portfolio at all times to make sure that we're investing in the best projects and holding the best assets going forward."

...While formal investor talks are off the table during the blackout period, there’s been no shortage of unsolicited advice making its way to Newcrest’s board members, management team and bankers.

Consensus seems to be that Australian fund managers are keen to lock in a Newmont takeover, albeit at a higher price. Fundies were quick to point out that Newcrest shares have underperformed the big offshore gold groups - Newmont, Barrick Gold, Agnico Eagle - and part of that was missing out on the premium attached to being part of a bigger North American-based group.

Fundies would also prefer to see some cash, rather than rely on Newmont scrip. However, they realise their best chance of a knockout offer is probably asking for a larger share of the combined Newmont/Newcrest entity (in the absence of a competing bid)...

...Newcrest interim CEO Sherry Duhe will present the group’s half-year numbers on Thursday. The company’s second quarter production report released last month was softer than some analysts expected, however it maintained FY23 guidance...

Newcrest Mining’s taking the slow route to assessing its $24.4 billion bid, delaying formal talks with institutional shareholders until after the company’s first-half results on Thursday.

The lack of formal shareholder engagement makes it hard to see Newcrest making any drastic decisions ahead of Thursday’s result, and it would be a brave board to accept or reject an offer without speaking to its nearest and dearest fund managers...

When it comes to natural resources China often gets what it wants by doing deals with, shall we say, unscrupulous individuals, or governments, where Swiss banking companies also tend to prosper! IMO, of course!

As many of us know, both Shaun Day & Callum Baxter are HOT to trot in Ernest Giles, as I am, and I'm pretty sure a lot of other GGP investors are too!!

However, we all know that it's a MASSIVE tenement! There is no other word for it, IMHO!

That said, I feel that beyond that, we have a great deal of knowledge from earlier drilling, and the highly important views from the likes of Callum Baxter, and, going forwards, the great geology team that we now have in place at Greatland, to pinpoint the sweet spots!

Like any mining exploration, it will probably take some time, but, with a big hit earlier, which is always possible, that could mean a huge sp movement upwards!

IMHO, from reading his piece, he's clearly not as deeply researched, and up to date on Greatland Gold, but especially in what's happened, over the last year or so, than even the majority of people posting here, and, therefore, his views are pretty pointless!

BTW, just to add, there may well also be some difference in the nomenclature used in the terminology of JVA contracts by different countries too! Nothing is ever simple! Ha! TT

Hi Dip, I agree! This will always happen when shareholders (maybe rightly?) just get the basics of any agreement, and not the minutae. There may well be statements made at the time of the J/V that were published about the first right options, but I couldn't find any myself. That doesn't mean that they aren't out there, and I'd be interested to see any link available.

What I do know, is that in the RNS at the time, in the Greatland Gold/Newcrest Mining JVA T&C's it's stated that, "Following the delivery of a Feasibility Study, the Management Committee will meet to consider a Decision to Mine. A unanimous vote by the Management Committee is required to approve a Decision to Mine. If a Decision to Mine is not approved by a unanimous vote, then the party who voted in favour shall have an option to purchase the non-approving party's interest at fair market value."

I appreciate that that doesn't cover all eventualities, but, my view remains that we're highly likely to be protected, to a great degree, in having a first option of some form throughout the J/V in the JVA. It would, IMHO, be very unusual if we weren't.
