I concur GT4's comments. As far as fit and finish is concerned, it starts with the parts being dimensionally correct, along with their mating parts. Body panels can be very precisely controlled dimensionally if the press dies are accurately made, which is no problem with numerically controlled milling machines etc. The body sides should ideally be a single pressing so avoiding dimensional variations due to worn framing jigs and clamps during welding.

I have to agree about the fit and finish, even in photos you can see some panel misalignments and tapered margins, my 2008 Focus is far superior in this respect (but not in others !)
