Can anyone tell me where we are with Elliott waves at the moment ? I realise that this is another Technical Analysis tool but surely if it were successful everyone would be on a yacht in the Caribbean, not posting on a BB. Blame the algobots, I do ! The only Elliott wave I'm sure about is the one where Elliott waves to ET when he takes off in his spaceship. 3300 I assume you're in at the moment since you're posting ramptastically tonight (DBX, Clarkson, atom bomb boom). That was probably the mark 3 Zephyr with the fins on the rear wings. Straight 6 engine. The mark 4 had the German V6.

Yes I remember it was the Mark 4 Zephyr/Zodiac. Later replaced with the Granada which we also built, hey ho, nostalgia, the days when Dagenham built cars.

3300 I was there when it happened, I had just joined Ford in 1969 and this was my first taste of industrial action (or inaction!) It went on for a long time as I recall. Ford lost a fortune in lost production and eventually had to agree to the ladies' demands. I think we were building Cortinas and Zephyrs with a bonnet the size of a football pitch at the time.

As former supervisor of Technical Quality Control in the Dagenham assembly plant, I can tell you that quality in the hands and conscience of the operator fitting the parts. The need for inspectors is minimal if you have that mindset in the workforce. Of course you have to give the operator good quality parts that fit. I was deeply involved in the transition to removing inspectors from the production line and giving the operator the responsibility, if he fails to fit the part correctly he marks the traveller card and the repairman rectifies the fault at the end of the section. You can do away with inspectors (turn them into operators), cost saving, and giving the operator responsibility and pride in the job.

Spot on richard, get the hiss in both SUs the same then retighten the linkage. Perfectly balanced. Only problem with SUs is if the bores get crud and causes sticking. Better than Strombergs, same principle but that damned rubber diaphragm !

Richard I forgot to mention my Healey had a Ruddspeed rocker box, whether or not Ruddspeed engine don't know, but it had 3 SUs not Weber 45 DCOE so maybe not. Went fast though. It had the marks of the glue from Monte-Carlo style stickers on the paint, but never found out the real history.

OK Richard, yes I remember all the tuning parts you mention, although never used myself I remember the magazine ads and articles.

Nice one Andy, the straight 6 sounds lovely when given a bit of welly. Mine was never concors but did a few shows. Sold it when I moved to the highlands 13 years ago, brought the Tiger 100 bike with me, in bits in my motorhome.

Nice to hear stories of great British engineering. I owned two TR4s as well as an Austin Healey 3000 Mk1 which I rebuilt single-handed over 3 years of evenings while I was working. Also had a Dolomite Sprint, the fastest of all of them, a little rocket-ship (faster than a 3 litre Capri to 60mph, 8.5 seconds, not bad for a naturally aspirated 1973 engine). Now, alas, I have only my 1956 Triumph Tiger 100 which I've owned since 1967. Richard, which engine size is your Cooper S, 970,1071 or 1275 ?
