Well, if you think about a newcomer into the field. Just get a web camera and slap together some open source code to identify a face and the eyes. Now you write code to describe a yawn, a noddind heas, or eye closure which is tricky a d resukts in lots of errors. Next step let AI do the hard work. So I will record 10 videos of me and my friends pretending to fall asleep. That isn't enough. You need thousands and thousands of each type of event for AI to learn to differentiate. And you need to label each event. and it only works on the ethnicity of the training data. So you need large volumes of representative people all in the act of driving a car. This stuff you can't buy!

If anything we could donate some data to the testing companies NCAP, Thatcham etc so that they can validate devices

Thanks for adding the extra details my Swedish isn't up to much. If you look at the report that was produced to go with the seminar they show Smart Eye in profit in FY 21 but with SEE in loss. We know that will soon change, but they are still trying to suck in investors.

They mention their many design wins and say that there are "several" ongoing tenders and more expected ahead.

Think about reading text in VR, the text currently has to be large, but if you only see the detail where you are looking you can have regular text that is just a grey area unkess you look then it is crystal clear

Earlier I had discounted some of the patents that JC had found because one was obviously for VR headsets. I also remember one about eye tracking on a that would blur what you weren't looking at. Those were Samsung and Thales I think.

But yes out tech could help. Thinking about Google showing your own face in a VR environment - that was just your eyes, but why not the whole face. A bit tricky if you are wearing a mask, but think how cars make the 360 degree image of your car by distorting 4 separate images. Although that would definitely look strange.

I watched the training video of how to set up a paper reel. It is a skill that I learned years ago when I was working on an optimisation project. It is spooky to see a Torres reel stand again. But i can't see how VR will help me to find the end of the roll of sticky tape or to get the feeling of pushing a 2tonne reel!

***Seeing Machines losses deepen on higher R&D spend***

StockMarketWire.com - Driving monitoring technology provider Seeing Machines booked a deeper annual loss after it ramped up R&D spending.

Pre-tax losses for the year through June amounted to A$41.7m (£22.7m), compared to losses of A$36.0m on-year.

Revenue rose 4% to A$31.9m, but R&D costs rose to A$35.9m, up from A$20.2m.

Seeing Machines forecast revenue in the current financial year to grow to between A$45m and A$50m.
