Just a reminder...off topic.26 Feb 2022 08:40
Talking about "off topic" just a reminder, this week February 1995.
Even the weather can affect a bank's standing, although he is often blamed for it, it wasn't Nick Leeson that facilitated the demise of Britain's oldest merchant bank, it was in fact an earthquake, well sort of.
'Britain’s oldest merchant bank, Barings, collapses as a result of ‘rogue trader’ Nick Leeson’s unauthorised investments. Leeson had run up trading losses of over £800m whilst speculating on the Japanese Nikkei index. An earthquake in Kobe causes a huge slump in the Japanese stock market, making Leeson’s investments virtually worthless. Leeson’s increasingly reckless attempts to recoup his losses are unsuccessful, and Barings is declared bankrupt. Leeson is subsequently charged with fraud, and sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison.'
Nice sunny start to the weekend so far, but there was an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude last week near Birmingham.
I know the weather is an "off topic" subject but you never know!!!
