I wrote earlier today about the November monetary policy report, here's another gem from today's effort.

"As the number of new cases (covid) go down, we expect people to start spending more."

Followed by-

"People are facing a larger than usual increase in the cost of living. That includes higher petrol prices and utility bills. This means they will have less to spend on other things."

A warning to the "big 6" not enough competition, the cry went up.
As soon as the regulator got involved it was all doomed to failure.
The likes of Centrica (I'm a shareholder) started haemorrhaging customers to the smaller chancers. Even local councils were getting involved risking local council taxpayers monies, and now, the bigger suppliers are bailing them out.
Meanwhile the UK is sitting on enough gas to support the whole of Europe.
This UK rush to so-called carbon neutral is gradually restricting all but the wealthy.
You never get anywhere if you're too hasty.

Nevermind the base rate today, most think it's a given and all priced in.
The better read will be the BoE's projections on inflation and economic activity for the next two years. We only get this report quarterly, last time we had this gem. -
"When the Covid pandemic struck, we needed to take immediate and substantial action to meet our inflation target."

"That action included a cut in interest rates to 0.1% in March 2020.

I don't recall the inflation rate out of control in the lead up to March 2020, in fact the preceding year, ONS figures show falling rates. From March 2019 at 1.9% to March 2020 to 1.5%, hardly a case for lowering the base rate.
Now we know back then it was somewhat different circumstances, but why state in their report it was due to inflationary pressures?

Can't see MM's holding/getting caught with BEM stock even though they get them at the bid price.
More like some of the fickle Swedish investors who seem to react to negative press releases, adverse SP movements or simply more sellers than buyers, which takes us back to the fickle Swedish investors, lol.
Highly unlikely any leak/news from the government yet, in any case a few percentage drop hardly constitutes a major correction.
Of course the other reason could be that someone is stake building before the promised forthcoming announcement and the MM's are having some problems filling the order.
We can only speculate/wish who that could be, although IMO highly unlikely at this stage of the process.
My views at this time, is there anything I've forgotten?

The Netherlands standard VAT rate is 21%, higher than ours. I suspect that a reduction to 1% is somewhat ambiguous especially if you got this from the Guardian. You see as in my last post everyone has their own agenda.
BTW, an announcement from the present government will appear sometime soon, March I believe the article said.
Peeps have had things too good for too long, the trouble is no-one wants to economise, they all want the government to pick up the tab.
It's a 'nanny' state and the UK has got to get out of it.

I heard Graham King live earlier this morning, interviewing some crypto 'expert.' She stated that bitcoin is a great hedge against inflation.
Bitcoin has nearly halved in value since early November last year whilst inflation has been constantly revised up!

Nobody in particular john, just a general observation and my thoughts at this time.
As you know there are some right nutter's on these BB's, by comparison the Lloyds BB is quite timid. Notwithstanding or in spite of your 'spats' with Lti and vice versa, but I've said my piece about that and do not wish to get involved.

Don't think anyone is qualified to give investment advice not even an IFA and they want payment.
Why would I pay someone to lose me money when I can do that myself.
As for peep's on these forums, it's littered with punters giving their expertise, everyone's a winner lol.
Apart from that, these BB's can and are, a source of some decent info which can prove beneficial.
As for share tips, er no, nothing wrong in posting trades, but why the flannel that goes with it, encouraging others to follow suit? I guess it's reassuring for the poster at that time, but there's probably a few gullible folks about who would blindly follow.

Theosus, I believe fuel duty hasn't been raised for years neither has the Vat rate on fuel.
Our petrol/diesel prices have been subjected and linked to world wide fluctuations of oil prices. Obviously the tax take rises and falls with those fluctuations.
Fuel duty is currently levied at a flat rate of 57.95p per litre for both petrol and diesel, while VAT at 20% is then charged on both the product price and the duty, this hasn't changed for the last 11 years.
Now home energy has come to the fore, with the current 5% vat rate courtesy of the EU, which of course can now be reduced or scrapped.
Just saying.

Jåhkågasska and Sirges sameby, uncle Tom Coble and all, have by now, or should have, dredged up everything they can think of to oppose a mine outside of Jokkmokk.
It should be just a case of dotting the i's and crossing the t's, after all, I expect we've heard it all before.
