China has been stockpiling U3O8 and I am not aware of any significant stockpiles in the west except the investments vehicles of Sprott and YCA. There are a number of mines that can be started of which Nexgen looks to have the best but very few are being started yet. There are many difficulties in starting up a mine, these include finance (very expense even compared to other mines), permissions from governments, lack of sulfuric acid (holding back Kazatomprom at present) and technical, now where near as simple as coal, copper gold etc. It is said it takes up to 10 years to get a Uranium mine into production. Also enrichment facilities take a long time to setup and a lot of the current enrichment is in Russia. At present the market is controlled by miners and buyers who are engineers who actively ignore and shun financial market experts but Sprott and YCA have enabled investing in physical Uranium.

For a time a lot of Uranium has been supplied from stockpiles and closed down nuclear reactors, theses have now been used up, it is all because of Fukushima. New nuclear reactors cancelled, other shut down, mines closing or cutting back due to losing money. Now even Japan is restarting it's nuclear program.

In brief it is just one more area of energy the west have ignored for years that they think it can just be turned on like a tap but has a longer lead times than O&G, coal etc.

Iran and North Korea enrichment is different, they are looking for low amount of nuclear bomb grade not high amounts of nuclear generation grade.

Best to take this information from elsewhere, it is complicated, in brief the amount of U308 being mined is nowhere near sufficient to meet future projected needs along with enrichment facilities. At present there are no plans to significantly increase this and the mines and enrichment take many years to from initial start up to production. The miners etc got badly burnt after Fukushima lead to massive cutbacks and even Cameco has not re-started it's US mines and are very reluctant to increase by much unless term contracts are taken out at a good price to them, the users are reluctant to commit except for the bear minimum they require. This is said to be due to the buyers being engineers and have even been laughing at experts a few years ago that have made fortunes in other commodities who have entered this area and predicted the rises. The price of U3O8 has gone up 90% last year alone, they are not laughing now.

If you really have an interest listen to Rick Rule on youtube and find more links to other experts on LSE YCA board, there are many facets to the Uranium market which this board is not the place to go into. I will add I have been invested in U308 and Camerco for a time now and it has proved to be very good but as always DYOR.

The problem with Nuclear Energy is there is structural defect of Uranium and enrichment and will be a long time before this is solved as at best mines and enrichment take many years to bring on stream.

I am now heavily invested in this area and from my research the increase in mining and enrichment is slow due to the users unwilling to pay more and the of producers not willing to take the risk of expanding too much unless more money by the buyers is committed via term contracts. Also the Russian Uranium is being cut off from the west along with Niger's and a lot of Kazatomprom Uranium going to China. There is beardly enough to keep the current power stations running.

Labour did not make the Tories implement EPL (not WFT as it is not a one off tax), but it was first their idea and they applied a lot of pressure and the weak Tories gave way, look it up you will become better informed.

When this was introduced there was a lot of anger against the Torys, Liz Truss was going to soften the tax and planned to get rid of it but we all know where that went. It was Sunak's tax introduced when he was chancellor and increase by 10% when he was PM and Hunt chancellor. It was first put forward and champagned on hard by the Labour party. I suspect the only reason Labour are going to make it worse it that they promised to do this in the election for political and ESG reasons as it clearly will lead to a lower tax take, job loses and more imported O&G.

Aren't we all, just a dream at present. All we can do is hang on and take the dividends and for me occasionally trade a few to help the average, not any where near Trek levels in reducing average as not willing to commit any more money to DEC even for a short time but every little helps.

Probably to do with government spending and effect on interest rates.

Government is planning to borrow another 50B and sending 10yr Gilts 50bps higher the past few weeks.

With government handing out large pay rises to government workers pushing up inflation (or at least not falling as fast as expected) and debt, add on ESG spending in UK and abroad and other increases in spending this will increase debt forcing up GILT yields with the increased inflation forcing the BOE to keep rates higher for longer.

The higher interest rates than expected are effecting REIT prices partly because of borrowing cost and partly yield compared to GILTS.

This happened before, I was noticing a huge drop each morning for a short time (probably just a few minutes after market opened). When I set a limit order did not get filled even though price reported well below my limit. I am not able to get a historic view of the buy and sell price i.e. spread so next day check at opening and found a spread of around 50p which quickly closed. Only difference now is it taking a lot longer for spread to close.

I do notice that most mornings DEC opens lower than NY close and often goes up a bit when NY opens and NY falls a little as prices synchronise, NY and LSE then go up a little/recover, after LSE close price goes up usually after about an hour or so. This tells me that shares are moving from LSE to NY and after LSE close takes a little while to soak up moved shares. This all adds more weight to the broken UK market, think we will be better off if/when DEC delist from LSE.

I was playing this for a time and made some money but gave up after price when in one direction, down, after carry trades and Crescent Pass acquisition.

This cannot be proved for sure but when energy prices rose Labour kept repeating there should be a WFT on O&G to help subsidise energy bills, Rishi Sunak and James Hunt kept saying they would not do this but after a lot of pressure from Labour and left wing press they gave in.

In the main I agree with you but the OBR will be under a lot of pressure to help out he government, already Rachel Reeves is asking for an increase in borrowing. In the short time this government has been in power it has made appalling decisions showing no concern to any fiscal prudency and just will carry on as they are not business people but a bunch of ideologs. It has been shown the VAT on School fees and Non Doms tax will lose money but it ploughs ahead regardless.

The EPL was purely a political decision pushed on the weak torys by Labour for their own ends which is why I am questioning the politics of this decision.

The government are not interested in assessments unless it agrees with them. Even if some investments could proceed under the new tax rules who in their right mind would fund these as the next thing likely to happen is another tax grab.

This government is not driven by prudent fiscal choices but by idealism and political dogma, a very poor mix with good investment.

The point I am trying to make is the OBR is unreliable and has has been proved wrong many times, It is a QUANGO with political agendas so anything it comes out with should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The facts are that O&Gs companies are reducing/exiting the NS and many have said this will be accelerated when Labour increase the tax burden on them so the statement

is clearly wrong and made to prop up an already failed policy of increasing overall tax take via the EPL, it will for a short time increase tax take then less tax being taken as most companies will have left. It is also simplistic view as it does not take into account the tax paid on the ancillary jobs associated with NS O&G which will go and also misses likely social security payments to those made unemployed or moving to lower paid jobs.

It does however push the ESG agenda which OBR is very keen on.

Or perhaps it is the OBR which has reputation of to being left wing Some of the OBRs staff members have previously worked at left-leaning organizations, such as the Resolution Foundation which has been led by Ed Miliband’s former policy director, Torsten Bell.
