"my income is £3000, and my rent is £1500"
"because the boss went on a mad austerity drive"
You really have no idea of what happened if you are going to use a simplistic analogy like this the situation was in reverse i.e. income is £1500, and my rent is £3000, without an austerity drive the company would be bankrupt and you out of a job.
In fact the situation was more complex with the balance sheet being stuffed with good will that did not exist which was used to borrow money to pay the dividends. JL kept the company afloat with cancelling the dividends, RI and asset sales but failed to significantly address the low profit and loss making contracts, he needed to make a lot more savings but either did not know how to or did not want to upset the apple cart and was happy to take salary and bonuses etc and lie to the shareholders until not much left to sell, got found out then bailed out.
Given this governments appalling financial management, increase in workers right, increased minimum wage, increased business rates, increased energy costs, increased interest rates, killing growth etc. NI (except if you work for government) etc in a fragile economy that cannot afford these more savings are required. CPI like a lot of others will have no choice but to off shore more work to get partially away from a financial illiterate government to survive. AI might help but I think overall it will make very little difference as all of it's competitors will be doing the same but it will cut staff costs.
