In Alberta, Suncor is deploying a remote Caterpillar DSS accelerated collision avoidance and fatigue management system for all of its mobile mining equipment. The system is already installed at Syncrude’s Mildred Lake and Aurora mines and will be installed in its remaining mines by early 2023.

DSS is a configurable two-part system combining real-time fatigue and distraction alerts and remote monitoring services. Some classics out there for sure! I had a rock n roll sleeper bus Co & took on a hardened rock n roll tour manager used to work with Bowie a lot. He was 20 yrs older than me & I was using fax & phone still in my main business.

He started using email & I said you’re mad taking 10 mins to write a mail that can be done with a 2 min phone call. He said I can see it being the future. I just laughed.

On one gig he wanted to go meet the client management & singer & go up north as he said it’s the artists 1st big proper gig & I think she will be big on the music scene. I agreed in the end and he went meet the management and artist.

When he got back he raved about her. Very quiet petite girl with a great voice but very shy. He wouldn’t shut up about her.

Apple Car features
The Apple Car wasn't supposed to be your typical electric car, though it may no longer do all the driving for you, as had been previously rumored. The car's self-driving capabilities now sound like they'll be limited to freeway driving based on recent reports.

Even with the scope of autonomous driving scaled back, Apple's car is likely to be equipped with LiDAR sensors that will help it "see" the world around it.

Apple is no stranger to LiDAR, having included it on certain high-end iPhones and iPad Pros, and everything we've seen suggests it'll be coming to the Apple Car as well.

LiDAR is short for "Light Detection and Ranging", and the system works by sending out pulsed lasers. Those lasers will be reflected back to the car's sensors as it hits objects, and using that information it forms a picture of what objects are in the surrounding area and how far away they are.

But LiDAR is used by almost every self-driving car out there. In fact only Tesla has sworn off LiDAR in favor of a computational vision system.

With that in mind, the Apple Car is going to need to have a fair bit of computing power behind it, and a report from analyst Colin Barnden(opens in new tab) suggests that it could all come from a "C1" chip. Per Barnden, this will be based on the iPhone XS's A12 Bionic and will pack in AI-centric features.
