Ford’s F-150 lineup freshening for 2024 aims to maintain the truck’s sales dominance.

The changes include freshened hybrid, Tremor and Raptor variants with new design elements and improved tailgate functionality.

U.S. sales of the F-Series have risen 22% to 514,716 this year through August and the pickup line generated $41.5 billion in revenue last year. That's more than Starbucks, Netflix and Visa.

The 2024 F-150 will be sold in 90% fewer orderable combinations than the current truck to simplify manufacturing.

BMW to make new electric Mini in Oxford after securing millions in taxpayer funding

The government says the move will help secure 4,000 jobs. It comes after Sky News revealed earlier this year the car giant was planning to invest millions in its plant in the city.

BMW is to build its next generation of electric Minis in Oxford after securing £75m in taxpayer support from the government.

It comes as the German-headquartered car giant announced it would invest a total of £600m in the UK, including at its factory in the city and at a vehicle body-pressing plant in Swindon.

Fast-forward to 2023, and the Autopilot is now ranked seventh, from a total of twelve. Other systems such as General Motors’ Super Cruise and Volkswagen’s Travel Assist have since caught up. Amid this embarrassment of sophisticated driver assist systems, it is Ford’s BlueCruise that reigns supreme. Ford to open Detroit auto show with F-150 reveal, Darius Rucker performance at Hart Plaza

Ford Motor Co. plans to turn Hart Plaza into an F-150 festival on Tuesday night with pickup trucks and country musicians, including Grammy-winner Darius Rucker, performing for thousands of employees as part of the 2024 Ford F-150 reveal.

The event opens the North American International Auto Show, which runs through Sept. 29 at Huntington Place in Detroit.

Singers Niko Moon and MacKenzie Porter are scheduled to play for two hours prior to the 2024 F-150 reveal, which will occur between 8 and 8:30 p.m. After the reveal, Rucker is scheduled to take the stage for an hour, the Free Press has learned. The livestream will end after the F-150 reveal. Rucker's performance is considered private and will be seen only by people at Hart Plaza.

Extended semi-autonomous driving capabilities

PEUGEOT takes a further step towards semi-autonomous driving with the Drive Assist Plus system available on the new E-3008. This system assists the driver by using all the car's sensors (cameras, radar, etc.) and information from the connected navigation system.

These assistance systems are designed to lighten the driver's workload on multi-lane roads such as motorways or dual carriageways:

- Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and lane-keeping assist. Manages the steering and speed of the new E-3008 to keep it in a lane and at a speed preset by the driver.

- Semi-automatic lane change. Changes lane for the driver when required. Simply activate the indicator and press the "ok" button on the steering wheel, and the system will steer you towards the new lane.

- Early speed recommendation. Detects any change in the speed limit by reading road signs and gathering information from the connected navigation system and suggests that the driver adjust the Adaptive Cruise Control setting. If it detects rain, the system immediately suggests reducing speed in accordance with the speed limit, for example from 130 to 110km/h on the motorway.

This semi-autonomous driving capability requires the driver's validation. Sensors ensure that the driver keeps his or her hands on the wheel at all times.

BlueCruise’s Debut in the UK

The BlueCruise option was activated by Ford in April 2023 in the UK, initially offered on its electric flagship, the Mustang Mach-E. This innovative feature allows drivers to experience hands-free driving on specific motorways in the UK, encompassing approximately 6,000 kilometers of road. These designated motorways are identified by their blue zones, equipped with four lanes and center dividers, and span from Dover to Scotland.

Last night we updated the BlueCruise maps on all of our Model Year 2023 Mustang Mach-E vehicles in Great Britain. Many of you will have read about the technology’s approval for use on the German Autobahn two weeks ago - now the team have made that regulation a reality. Our BlueCruise customers in Great Britain just gained access to more than fifteen thousand miles of additional Blue Zones where they can now drive hands free.

BMW has signed a deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the cloud provider for its automated driving platform across its range.

The BMW Group will develop its next-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) using AWS and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Drive chipset for the “Neue Klasse” vehicles set to launch in 2025.

Placing the automated driving platform in the cloud helps break down development silos within vehicle software teams says BMW and helps foster greater global collaboration with suppliers such as Valeo.

The new cloud-based system will use BMW’s pre-existing Cloud Data Hub on AWS, and will use AWS compute, generative artificial intelligence (generative AI), Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, digital twin and storage capabilities to help accelerate the delivery of highly automated BMW vehicles.

BMW will also use AWS to help scale its capacity to handle vast increases in data creation and usage within automated driving feature development. As car makers deploy higher-level automated driving functions, such as adaptive cruise control, parking assist, and piloted driving, the vehicles create more data for engineering teams to analyze and use in future feature development. This cloud-based infrastructure will be used for lane departure assist, automated lane change and hands-free driving functions using a common reference architecture across BMW models.

Fisker has said it expected to increase production of its Ocean sports utility vehicle to about 300 units a day in the fourth quarter from around 180 units.

Canadian parts supplier Magna International’s contract assembler unit Magna Steyr produces its EVs for Europe and North America.

Vehicle deliveries are expected to accelerate in North America in September, CEO Henrik Fisker told Reuters.

As of 4 September, Magna had manufactured 3,123 vehicles with just under 3,000 handed over to Fisker, the company said, adding that 450 Oceans in the US have been either delivered to customers or are in the process of being delivered.

Last month, Fisker cut its annual production target due to supply chain issues. That overshadowed a smaller than expected quarterly loss and its first revenue from deliveries of electric sport utility vehicles, Reuters noted.

Even as suppliers recovered from a “COVID hangover” to keep pace with Fisker’s production ramp up, one key supplier of a complicated part which needs specific skilled labour, was taking longer than expected, the company had said.

CIBC raised the firm’s price target on Magna to $75 from $73 and keeps an Outperformer rating on the shares. The analyst came away from the investor day “reassured that despite the changing dynamics” the industry is facing, Magna’s focus on “investing in the future with an eye to solid financial performance is unwavering.” The company reiterated that it continues to expect its growth to outpace that of the market, the analyst tells investors in a research note.

Finemore said those truck driver deaths triggered a quest to look for fatigue management technology.

“And eight years ago, I came across something. And what we have today is the greatest advanced safety technology I’ve seen in my 60 plus years in the industry. It’s a real game changer that saves lives. The key issue is that since we’ve had it in, we’ve done 500 million kilometres in seven years, and we’ve had one, one fatigue related accident.”

Essentially Finemore is talking about systems that comprise cabin mounted cameras, speed detection, braking, seat-belt use and more, commonly known in the industry as IVMS, or In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems.

Ron Finemore Transport operates a fleet of heavy vehicles across Victoria, NSW and Queensland, servicing supermarkets, fuel distributors, oil companies and food and industrial products manufacturers.

Fatigue laws were introduced in Australia in 1938 and are presently under review as part of the national heavy vehicle law review.

Finemore said he’d like to see prescriptive fatigue rules, including work diaries and electronic log books, done away with in favour of adoption of in-vehicle monitoring systems.
