Kevin is currently Senior Director of Marketing, Automotive, at Seeing Machines Limited. Seeing Machines, headquartered in Canberra, Australia, is the global leader in high performance production Fleet and OEM automotive Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) solutions. Kevin is responsible for business development in Japan, South Korea and in Silicon Valley (CA), along with operational product management for new product introduction of the FOVIO Driver Monitoring silicon called FDM-CHIP, and worldwide marketing for the Seeing Machines automotive business.

Kevin graduated from the University of California at San Diego. He then attended the Hitotsubashi University School of Commerce in Tokyo, Japan, as a special auditor, where he studied International Strategic Marketing. Kevin is an accomplished author of several automotive-related articles published in various trade journals, and has spoken at industry events such as CEATEC in Japan and the International Automotive Electronics Congress in Paris, France.

Advanced Drive

The latest advanced driving assist technologies based on the Mobility Teammate Concept enable onboard systems for driver status monitoring to appropriately assist the driver in recognition, judgment, and operation, in accordance with actual traffic conditions. Driving capabilities such as keeping the vehicle in its lane, maintaining vehicle-to-vehicle distance, lane splits, changing lanes, and overtaking other vehicles, when driving on expressways and other motor-vehicle-only roadways are supported. In pursuit of achieving system-conducted driving that can be trusted by the driver, fundamental vehicle performance was honed so that the driver would feel secure in leaving driving to the vehicle, and the system was engineered to prioritize safety in making judgments. The driver is freed from operation of the accelerator, brakes, and steering, allowing a reduction in driver burden during long drives and enabling safe driving.

The race towards autonomous driving is on, and it looks like the luxury sedan segment is where the action truly is. The new W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class aims to be the first certified Level 3 autonomous vehicle, and while this newly-revealed facelifted Lexus LS isn’t quite there yet, it’s debuting the Japanese carmaker’s advanced Lexus Teammate system in its home market.

As shown in previous technology demos, the Advanced Drive system essentially provides a high level of autonomous driving on expressways and other roads that the feature supports, from entry to exit. Lexus has yet to release details on how it all works but confirmed it would take control of the accelerator, brakes and steering, allowing the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel.

However, it’s not a full Level 3 system, as the driver still needs to keep their eyes on the road. Lexus isn’t the first Japanese carmaker to introduce such technology,

Other updates are more noticeable, with the Lexus Teammate system adding hands-free Advanced Drive highway autopilot, and Advanced Park capabilities that work the steering, gears and pedals, or just tell you exactly how far to turn the wheel.

Highway Teammate will be more similar to General Motors’ Super Cruise assisted-driving system than Autopilot, according to Business Insider. Super Cruise also lets drivers take their hands off the wheel, but only activates when driving on a multi-lane highway already mapped out by GM — a governance considered to be vastly safer than Autopilot, which doesn’t have geographical constraints.

If you only had Europe legislation but as an OEM you sold 90% of a model in Asia & USA you may not bother trying to sell that model in Europe after weighing up costs.

Now Asian models automatically get sold with the same tech in.

For us with a chip put in at manufacture we could even find our sales per model go up but not get activated in the country it’s in.

But we get paid for it.

What your forgetting is that some of these projects are 3,4 years in development so all the projects under way aren’t going to stop.

If you noticed Fords latest launches then the hands free option with DMS is what’s proving popular. I guess Ford, Cadillac & FCA to follow have chosen this route & competitors will follow no doubt.

One would hope with a bit of news like this on top of 3 ford launches, Super cruise expansion & a contract with FCA that our USA broker will be working on their 1st Note.

As soon as Ford, Veoneer, SEE are allowed to mention it I would think there’s no better time to announce SEE to the US investment market.

Lifetime contract values are 6/7 yrs so the $10 million is about $1.5 million PA if actually lost? How much upfront engineering was paid? Run through Veoneer so sure they were negotiating great terms with a start up. So our contract would be with them not the end user.

As they say its not over til the fat lady sings. They might get backing or maybe sold to someone? Lets wait and SEE.

Dont panic Fords about $200 million more than we got it down for & once a Honda or VAG or Toyota drop then even if it doesnt happen iam sure we be ok.

My wrangler Jeans are shown worn by a cowboy with cowboy boots & chewing gum. I still want them though. But not a Cowboy lol.
