A$50m Ford win for Seeing Machines

It’s great news that Seeing Machines, working with its Tier 1 partner Autoliv, has won a A$50m contract to supply its Fovio DMS system to Ford. Even better is that it’s on its new chip.

Once again my sources have been proven to be correct. Avid readers will note that in a previous blog, entitled: ‘Seeing Machines set to win 75% of the global DMS market’ the Ford win was predicted.

Back then, on 16th March, I wrote: “I’m being told that Fovio will soon be contracted to Ford, Volvo and Audi. (That’s in addition to General Motors, Mercedes and BMW). Moreover, those same sources are telling me that by the end of this calendar year Toyota will definitely be committed to using it and, most likely, Honda.”

The document containing this latest OEM win was published as part of Autoliv’s Investor Day presentation and is here: (Note that Veoneer is Autoliv’s active safety division that will soon be spun-off).

The clues are on page 13 and 17, in which it is revealed that in Q2 2018 Veoneer won a contract with a major global North American OEM for a DMS.

Lets hope a Toyota or Honda does drop in the end.

If Veoneer or SEE dont announce anything with Ford imminently , iam sure it will be in Veoneers July announcements.

At some point Veoneer will announce the Ford launches. From 22 months ago.

Veoneer, Stifel, Cenkos, SEE can only report what they allowed to within a SEE NDA. The car industry one of the most secretive Industries out there.

But we know what vehicles just launched with SEE in & whats coming. I just laugh at the chuckle brothers.

There’s a progression in the technology,” said Tom Herbert, product director at Veoneer, a Swedish technology company that will introduce a next-generation driver-monitoring system this year centered on human-machine interaction. “It’s about, ‘How do we improve the relationship between the car and driver, and what are the right pieces of technology to accommodate that?’ It really becomes more of a fusion.”

From memory one of the smaller RNSs was FCA. Although safestocks had its value a lot higher. No ones mentioned them for ages. They must be due a 1st model soon.

At CES Vegas Iam sure a small FIAT looked like a Mustang type DMS setup. This is what was said last year by safestocks.

If it wasn’t as clear as mud it is now lol.

I would presume the type of scenario you are battling possibly is a scenario where a FFS supplier supplies commercial & military users. If a deal was set up on hourly usage or per person then that’s great and easy to monitor.

If it’s a flat fee scenario then the Simulator supplier might have a lot less commercial customers temporarily in the equation so things need to be tweaked.

While military may still want to use it the commercial sector may be harder with travel restrictions & loss of business are dragging their feet.

Lots of things to learn though but hopefully sooner rather than later.

I think the waters were muddied in aviation with the onslaught of Covid messing things up for the airlines. Iam sure if no Covid a commercial deal may have been announced already.

Now while commercial may be on hold while new numbers are negotiated or deal tweaking we still have the military aspect to look forward to Iam sure.

Be nice to finally see a deal over the line though to prove that the 3rd leg of the stool actually has a significant value & not like currently where no value in SP is there, nor any chunky numbers allowed for in any forecasts by the likes of Cenkos.

Cadillac’s global sales last year were up 8.8% to roughly 390,000 vehicles compared to 2018, led by a 10.9% increase for Cadillac in China. That compares to Cadillac’s U.S. sales, which were up only 1% to more than 156,000 in 2019.

China overtook the U.S. as Cadillac’s top sales market in 2017, two years before executives at the time expected.

Amazon has agreed to acquire autonomy startup Zoox for a sum in excess of $1 billion, according to sources cited by The Information.
