Eyesight Technologies
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Eyesight Technologies is a leader in computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) that was founded in 2005. The company holds dozens of patents and offers both a DMS, called Driver Sense, and an OMS, called Cabin Sense. Driver Sense can both identify individual drivers and personalize in-cabin environmental parameters according to their preferences. Driver Sense can differentiate people by age, gender, and face. It monitors gaze, pupil dilation, eyelid blink rate and duration, and head position and orientation to detect sleep, drowsiness, and/or distraction (often before drivers themselves are aware of these states). In addition, Driver Sense can detect cellphone use and/or smoking. Car systems can be informed of a driver’s state in real-time, and alerts and other precautionary measures can be triggered. Driver Sense’s logic is built on extensive academic research and simulation testing conducted by Eyesight’s engineers. The company’s solutions are available for inclusion in OEM production or as aftermarket products. Eyesight customers include Volkswagen subsidiary SEAT; auto parts suppliers Samsung/Harman, Exsun, Soling, and Hefei Zhixin; and chipmaker Ambarella.
Valeo
Valeo, based in Créteil, France near Paris, is a Tier 1 auto parts supplier that manufactures sensors and electronics for vehicles, including AVs. First introduced in 2018, the company’s Valeo Driver Monitoring DMS can identify individual drivers to set in-vehicle preferences, monitor eye direction and opening fluctuation for attentiveness and fatigue, and activate alerts when drowsiness is detected or eyes are off the road for a specific period. The DMS can also use the driver’s gaze to activate car ****pit interface elements, allowing functions to be actuated without the driver needing to physically touch any controls. The DMS can work in concert with the company’s Hands On/Off Detection (HOD) system that can tell if a driver’s hands are placed on a vehicle’s steering wheel. This information can be relayed to a car’s electronic control units (ECUs) and/or AV platform and can trigger alerts and/or other actions. Valeo’s customers include General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, Porsche, Daimler, BMW, Scania, Jaguar Land Rover, Groupe PSA, Fiat Chrysler, Toyota, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai/KIA, Geely/Volvo, Great Wall Motors, BYD, and Tata.
