This announcement from Seeing Machines of a second #Occula #NPU license is informative of trends in the #DMS #OMS and interior monitoring market. It isn't possible to identify exactly who the licensee is, but we can get pretty close.
1. It is a "US based semiconductor company" which limits the field somewhat.
2. The license is "into the automotive semiconductor ecosystem" so it is a company focused on automotive.
3. The license "facilitates another fully hardware accelerated and optimised silicon platform" which perfectly describes ASICs/ASSPs and rules out heterogeneous computing. So that takes out AMD, Nvidia and Qualcomm.
4. The agreement "will target development of a single semiconductor product with the option to expand into a larger family of devices" which suggests a supplier with very focused expertise, pointing to application specific products (ASSPs) rather than general purpose devices.
There aren't many semiconductor companies that fit those criteria. Texas Instruments does, but it already has success in DMS/OMS with its #Jacinto processor, so is unlikely to cannibalize that product line. Broadcom Inc. and Marvell Technology fit too, but are strategically much more focused on markets other than automotive.
Intel Corporation is a possible, but is set to #IPO Mobileye (which is based in Israel). Ambarella Inc is possible too, but it announced a partnership with Seeing Machines at CES to integrate the #eDME (embedded Driver Monitoring Engine) onto the #CV2x family.
Which probably leaves four. Alphabetically, these are: Analog Devices, GEO Semiconductor, Inc., indie Semiconductor and onsemi.
Onsemi is a director competitor to OMNIVISION (the first Occula NPU licensee) in image sensors and image signal processors (#ISPs). Geo Semiconductor is a competitor to Omnivision and Onsemi in ISPs. Analog Devices is a leading player in automotive ASIC/ASSP. indie Semiconductor offers highly innovative automotive semiconductor solutions and is seeking to disrupt the established order.
Take your pick.
