ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in optical solutions, today revealed the ICARUS proof-of-concept which shows how to upgrade designs for Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) to support valuable new features such as an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HuD), secure driver authentication, and advanced drowsiness detection.

ams OSRAM is exhibiting the ICARUS system at the Automotive Engineering Exposition (Yokohama, Japan, 25-27 May 2022).

ICARUS is a proof-of-concept for advanced DMS mounted in the instrument cluster or A-pillar. The ams OSRAM 3D sensing system provides high-resolution depth maps (<±0.5% depth accuracy at a range of 45-70cm) using a structured light method. It uses an ams OSRAM depth-extraction algorithm which offers scope for even higher performance in future for customers which support custom product development. The system is implemented with automotive vertical-cavity surfaceemitting laser (VCSEL) near infrared (NIR) flood and dot pattern projectors from ams OSRAM.

Customers can deploy their DMS software in tandem with the accurate depth map of the driver’s face to determine the 3D position of the driver’s eyes and head pose. High-value driver monitoring functions such as AR-HuD and driver authentication can be based on this 3D position information. The ICARUS system’s accurate measurement of the position of the driver’s head in 3D also supports the implementation of software to detect micro-sleeps and other advanced signs of drowsiness which pose a risk to road safety.

Photonic component and sensor firm ams Osram has unveiled a proof-of-concept version of a new laser-based driver monitoring system able to spot “micro-sleeps” indicating dangerous levels of drowsiness.

GM’s new Vehicle Intelligence Platform is widely known for its ability to allow over-the-air updates on a host of vehicles. We don’t have much to go on - Buick China was careful enough to show just three pictures but that is enough to w?et our appetites. The vehicle has been named as Electra-X Concept and it is Buick’s first SUV to be developed using Ultium platform from GM.

It is clearly a follow-up to the Electra prototype we first saw in 2020. We won’t have to wait long to see the Electra-X - Buick is planning to unveil it during its Buick China Brand Day in just a couple of weeks.

“We are getting bigger and we want to be an international company,” Shen, ECARX’s chairman, said in an interview. “We want to have a very strong international expansion in the next five years.”

From last year but i remember a few discussions on here for VR/AR, headsets, augmented reality etc over past couple Years. But he mentioned Hololens back then aswell.

However, Seeing Machines needn’t be in any rush as its value should be considered in pounds not pence. I’ve earmarked the end of calendar year 2022 as the most likely date by which we’ll have some M&A action. By then it will be clear that:
