Meanwhile, the Ford Maverick remained in high demand last month with dealer stock turning in six days, while sales rose 123 percent versus last year. A grand total of 60 percent of Maverick buyers in October came from other brands, with its biggest conquest coming from non-competitors such as the Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. On the EV side of things, the F-150 Lightning had its best month ever with 2,436 total sales, while E-Transit sales rose 71.5 percent, reaching 5,157 units year-to-date and helping it retain its lead in the EV van segment.

Entering its third model year, the Ford Bronco is also still in high demand as the SUV racked up 10,928 sales in October – an increase of 48.4 percent – as dealer stock turns in a mere nine days. A whopping 91 percent of those sales came from previously-placed retail orders as well, which is perhaps the most notable takeaway from Ford’s October results.

For starters, order banks for the 2023 Super Duty just opened up on October 27, but in a mere five days, Ford took a whopping 52,000 orders for the redesigned truck – a staggering number, indeed. It wasn’t the only Blue Oval pickup to enjoy one heck of a month, however, as the Super Duty and its F-Series counterpart – the Ford F-150 – recorded a total of 56,405 sales last month, bringing its year-to-date total to 523,712, which is a 13.2 percent decline over last year, but enough to expand its sales lead to 105,427 units over its next closest competitor.

Martin Bjuve is appointed new CFO at Smart Eye.

Gothenburg, Sweden – November 4, 2022 – Smart Eye AB today announced the appointment of Martin Bjuve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective November 14.

As CFO, Martin Bjuve will play a key role in the development of the company, leading Smart Eye’s global finance organization and processes. He will be a member of the Executive Management Team and will be based in Smart Eye’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) on Wednesday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $2.87 billion.

The San Diego-based company said it had net income of $2.54 per share. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, were $3.13 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $3.12 per share.
The chipmaker posted revenue of $11.4 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $11.38 billion.

For the current quarter ending in December, Qualcomm expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.25 to $2.45. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $3.18.

Why would anyone even own a car? Autonomous taxis would be even cheaper than walking, said one industry analyst.

“Autonomous vehicles are able to acquire new skills faster than humans,” Salesky said in 2021.

But there was one problem. The technology could do impressive things but mastering all the situations we face as human drivers is tough. The billions invested in the technology haven’t yet been able to drive better than a human in some situations.

That’s been a problem for the long list of companies that set aggressive targets for self-driving cars. General Motors in 2017 promised mass production of fully autonomous vehicles in 2019. Lyft said in 2016 that half its rides would be self-driving by 2021. Ford talked up 2021 too, promising full self-driving vehicles deployed broadly.

But there’s a funny saying from the software world, known as the 90-90 Rule. Once 90% of the work is done, you only have 90% to go. The ability of self-driving car software to steer the vehicle within a highway lane is great, but being able to do so, even for thousands of miles at a stretch, isn’t enough. A self-driving car, without a steering wheel or pedals, would have to be able to drive itself in literally every situation possible.

With millions of miles being driven by humans every day, the number of tricky and unusual situations, called edge cases, is vast. Unusual events are individually, by definition, uncommon. But the sheer number of unusual events encountered by millions of drivers all over the world means that “unusual events” are quite common.

“It’s really, really hard,” Waymo’s then-CEO John Krafcik said in 2018 of self-driving technology. “You don’t know what you don’t know until you’re really in there and trying to do things.”

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter Fiscal 2022 results after the market closes on November 2. Wall Street estimates the wireless communications giant to report non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) of $3.13, which is almost 23% more than the prior-year quarter’s EPS. Moreover, revenue expectations of $11.38 billion are also around 22% higher year-over-year. Let us see how Qualcomm stands to meet these expectations ahead of the print.

In the lastearnings call Qualcomm had guided GAAP revenues of $11.0 billion - $11.8 billion and non-GAAP earnings of $3.00-$3.30 per share for Q4.

The top line is likely to have benefited from several significant deals that were closed in Q4. For instance, Qualcomm’s long-standing partnership with Meta (NASDAQ:META) was extended to create customized processors for Meta’s Quest virtual reality headsets. Moreover, Qualcomm and GlobalFoundries (NASDAQ:GFS) inked a deal to develop advanced 5G high-speed RF (radio frequency) front-end products.

Interestingly, in September, QCOM announced that its automotive design-win pipeline rose to $30 billion thanks to the growing adoption of Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions across the auto industry. This is expected to reflect in its quarterly performance too.

The GMC electric truck is equipped with Super Cruise. This feature allows this truck to drive for many miles without the need to put your hands on the wheel or feet on the pedals. The GM Super Cruise system offers customers a true hands-free driving experience on select stretches of highway across North America, and now, the feature is once again available to order for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500.

The GM Super Cruise (RPO code UKL) system was previously unavailable to order for the 2023 GMC Sierra due to a feature constraint in place since mid-May. Now, however, the feature is once again available to order for the light-duty pickup truck.

With regard to the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 specifically, GM Super Cruise is only available to order for Denali and Denali Ultimate trim levels in the Crew Cab / Short Box body configuration. Super Cruise was originally slated to be included as standard with the refreshed Denali Ultimate trim level at launch, but the feature was made optional after it was put under constraint.
