Wrong.

The network is owned by BT group. BT group funds Openreach to build the fibre network.

Openreach build, maintain and provide connectivity on BT's network infrastructure to all service providers.

Diversity, Equality, Inclusivity. It means positive discrimination towards certain groups of people at the expense of people who don't fit the required criteria but who may be better qualified.

In short - quotas.

EDI, or DEI as it now known (the acronym was changed because diversity was deemed to be more important that equality) has been pushed hard on all employers, particularly companies like BT, in a concerted effort to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities or for reasons of blocking certain people by using racial profiling. As with all these kind of things, the idea was seized upon by certain groups of people with a different kind of agenda and positive discrimination (an oxymoron because discrimination cannot be positive, it can only be discrimination) became a weapon to be wielded in order to enforce quotas.

Why is it important to BT?

Because BT, like many companies, have seen so-called positive discrimination being used to promote people whose physical characteristics are considered more important than their abilities or qualifications.

There is no Openreach infrastructure because Openreach are simply a service provider. There is no such thing as an Openreach infrastructure or network. Openreach is an organisation that provides services for BT and other telecomms agencies.

This is not nitpicking, this is facts that you seem unable to grasp, just as you seem unable to grasp that buying shares is a risk and if you lose money speculating on the stock market, that's down to you.

You can't use Openreach in "network sense only" because Openreach don't have a network. They install fibre in a network that they don't own, they connect end users to a network they don't own and they maintain a network they don't own.

BT have always owned the network. Openreach do not, and have never, owned a single wire, SIU or cabinet of the communications network. Openreach is, and always has been, a service provider, providing connectivity to BT and other companies across the BT owned network. Openreach also maintain the network on behalf of BT for all providers. This nonsense about the network being sold off with Openreach (which I don't think will happen) is simply ridiculous. The communications network is a security-critical national asset and no government would allow it to fall into the hands of what could be an enemy state. You should remember that BT were forced to dismantle and remove all the Huawei components because of security concerns, this work is still ongoing. The board of BT were warned about the flaws in Huawei's equipment years ago but chose to ignore these warnings.

The network cannot be reassigned to openreach because it belongs to BT Group, which in turn, belongs to the shareholders. If Openreach is calved off from BT Group and sold, which I doubt, it will be as it is - a service provider. There is no reason why Openreach should be gifted the network to make it a more attractive proposition, it already shovels money into the BT coffers without owning a single cable or fibre. Don't listen to the drooling nit-wit who wants BT to be sold just because his investment hasn't made him the millions he seems to think he deserves. All he deserves is to taken down to the canal in a sack full of bricks.

Openreach do not own the network so it can't be sold if Openreach is split away from BT Group. Openreach is a service provider for BT and other comms agents. All they own is the people and their vans. None of the equipment that forms the BT network is owned by Openreach.

The UK pension is not a contributory scheme, all that happens is that it is funded from tax - supposedly NI contributions - paid by those at work. People in receipt of the pension don't pay NI. So there is no great pot of money with your name on it. To get the full pension you need to have paid NI for 35 years. However, the age at which you become eligible will keep rising. So the best thing is to look after your pension planning yourself because the state pension is pathetic. However, this avaricious labour government are making plans to raid private pensions and share holdings so careful planning is crucial.

The state pension is already counted towards your annual allowance, so it is, in effect, taxed. If the personal allowances are not increased everyone with a state pension will be paying some tax very soon. The tories said they would not tax pensioners who only have the state pension, Labour refused to commit to that. So pensions are very much in Rachel Reeve's tax plans, one way or another.
