Big nuclear and SMRs will have a role - but when?
This morning, the BBC are leading on a story that we are going to have close to 100 new-built data centres by 2030. How in hell is that going to happen on BOTH power and cooling-water availabilty?
This from Dept of Energy "British Energy Security Strategy, of selecting the technologies best able to take a FID by the end of 2029 and be operational by the mid-2030s." That statement is from early 2024, so timescales will almost certainly have slipped.
Impact on ITM - probably not much other than, given the increasing price of grid electricity, an incentive for companies to contract directly with windfarm operators and run their own electrolyser. ITM kit provided by Hydropulse.
ITM is niche in the overall energy supply business, but it is a growing niche and, as presented yesterday, our CAPEX and OPEX costs are falling, not rising. Can the same be said for nuclear? I do not think so. It too has a niche.
