I am happy with these figures and it is my view so will the market, better than expected.

I have a significant investment in IAG and if I thought the shares were going to dive tomorrow I would sell them today and buy back tomorrow at about 8:30am. I don't think that is the case providing the losses come under the 1st quarter. The revenue will be at least 40% higher than the 1st quarter so I am expecting a robust set of figures. The market place is looking more settled for IAG now than any other time since the pandemic began and they could even b/e in the 3rd quarter. I would be surprised if they come out all doom and gloom, they know that they have a couple of quarters to get through this and with 9 billion to fall back on it would seem hasty and akin to throwing the baby out with the bathwater if they were to talk about possible cash calls. I just wish I was looking over Steve Gunning's shoulder at this moment in time.

@Mararab: "Not much of a rise today". The FTSE was up 0.3% and IAG was up 3.76%, well in my world that represents a very healthy rise.

BB: Good to see that your moving from a state of passive deramping to a positive one. IAG will not be making any cash call this Friday, they had 8 billion cash and 2 million aircraft options at the end of March. Factor in the increased turnover for the second half of the quarter, leaner salary structure and changes to hedging we will be pleasantly surprised on the cash burn and turnover.

Hi Galway, not sure this is now the case but Heathrow Airport used to be the largest single site employer in the UK, as there been any discussion or noises about redundancies after September following furlough? I only ask as the jobs issue always focuses the minds of those dawdling politicians.

I don’t often comment on this BB anymore but I am a long term holder, although less than 5% of my portfolio now and just for old time’s sake. I am more of an aviation and bus man now. I bet Bigbadbaz the old oiler is still lurking about? My view on this chaps is that the II’s don’t want to dirty their hands with hydrocarbons anymore, the current SP is completely bonkers. I know the Loon is saying and doing the right things but it is very early days for the bottom line.

@Mararab. IAG know how to run an airline and yes they will react to unfavourable trading. That said, customers expect it in these uncertain times and the best thing about it is that the cancellations don’t cost IAG one penny due to unforeseen circumstances, COVID.

What an exciting day? The travel stocks and the buses have taken a rite bashing, great times for those with buckets of dry powder. I never thought I would be buying this for below 160p. I feel sorry for those PI’s who bought in at 200p plus who sold today or Friday. Always a big psychological factor when you go underwater 20% plus and you can’t blame them for selling. I will be surprised if this goes down tomorrow, that news tonight was already baked in, but we will see. Personally, I am surprised we are not rioting in the streets, 60% of all hospital admissions have not been vaccinated? WTF? This shi-t storm is going to burn itself out very quickly.?

@Chris: It does make sense, you must consider that the maximum amount of shares traded today represents less than 0.2% of issued share capital, even less as the same shares are often rinsed through, MM’s can sell off book and manipulate the SP and the Algo’s are driving the price down on a very small amount of traded shares. It is a classic case of shaking out the bed wetters for the II’s to mop up. It doesn’t take a lot to spook PI’s who believe the market is about to implode. The shares are being walked down but I believe we have hit the bottom. I bought these, GOG and BP on leverage today as we are coming out of this mess and the markets know it.

Chaps: Don’t get yourself bogged down about wearing masks on flights, this is way down the list of priorities in lifting the SP. Personally, I am against them and on my last flight with BA I wore it for about 10% of both legs and was never asked to wear one.

This summer is not looking good, there is too much negative sentiment out there, what with the press stating that some of the Spanish Islands may go red on the next review will not help. I have never supported buying shares on leverage but if this continues to drop it is moving in that territory. There are some great options out there for the risk takers, IAG, Nex, Gog and SGC will all make good recoveries in a couple of years. PS: Can you stop talking about masks, it is becoming a tad boring.

Hard to think it was 1462p back in April on results day. As I have said on the Nex BB, the big factor is lack of liquidity, the amount of shares traded in this stock is extremely small compared to issued stock so the algos and MM’s can drive it down. I never buy shares on leverage but this share is moving into that territory.

@Jtan: My old friend from IAG, there is a saying which isn’t far away from the truth, “Sell in May and go away”. The reasons why these unloved shares are floundering are down to lack of liquidity, more perceived attractive investments and concern about Covid biting everyone’s arse. Unless you are a fund manager who needs to achieve a target every month, just sit back and this will come good when the finances start doing the talking. I am 70% in IAG and 30% in Nex and GOG. Nex is far safer than IAG, if you have spare cash and can lock it away for a couple of years you will see at least a 50% return on this share, minimum. The key is patience.

I very much doubt istabrraq, in fact it would be great for aviation if oil starts swishing around at 35$ ppb. It looks like the UAE don’t want to play ball and it could easily implode.

Them Pesky MM’s having a little shake, very tempting to sell for nervous PI’s who have seen a nice rise, then a stall. It will be back up before the end of the day.

Catching your thread on wearing masks, when I flew to Portugal last month, I never wore one on the return leg at all, apart from boarding and very limited on the out leg. The masks are complete s-hite and I will not be wearing one from the 19th. I had to laugh on Friday morning, I was on a very packed train with commuters standing, I thought, the good old days are coming back, I was filled with joy.

@Sunsurfer: I wouldn’t sell this when it hits 200p plus, with all that is happening the share is going to find a new channel. I can see all of Europe opening up by the 1st of August and the USA by the 1st of October. The H1 results are out on the 30th July and if they are better than expected that will give it another push, remember that the cash burn does not include any income, so I am hoping better than expected. Factor in the market looking 6 months ahead, the group will be breaking even the 1Q of 2022. IMO there is just too much happening to trade this share, I would wait until the channel looks more mature. IMO.

If you can sit in a nightclub you can sit in an office. Watch how quickly things will fall back into place. I am expecting a good ramp up in this and GOG in the next few weeks.

Well if they are going to open the night-clubs from the 19th with no restrictions, it negates the argument of people crowding together in an airport or a plane and it will smack of hypocrisy if they continue to hold back the travel industry. It will be interesting to see the data as to who has been vaccinated with the hospital admissions in the Covid spike locations. BJ is stating that if you can be bothered to be double jabbed your life is going back to normal. We already have a Covid passport with the NHS app and now the hard copy.
