Massive news, it means it’s a who-preferred test now for HCV testing showing the value of the Genedrive platform. Interestingly HCV is also an RNA virus like SARS-Cov-2 so it’s shows how Genedrive can be used at POC for C19... track and trace!

EE I completely agree, GDR have been very professional and have not issued RNSs every 5 minutes but provide appropriate news in a timed and consistent manner. It gives confidence in their process and expertise.

@scart I also think we are at in interesting time for the business. The product and business is completely de-risked, shown by the speed they have responded to this with product that is superior. The could lead to significant commercial partnerships or as LTHs will testify, my ongoing thought that there will be a trade sale at some point, this I think accelerates that prospect.

@scart I just think it’s cautious positioning, the non-lab setting I’m sure has a different trajectory for commercialisation, rigorous testing making sure the test works in the hands of all use case scenarios, sales and distribution channels. Availability will be quick I think.

Really is exciting times and particularly for the lths. Next expected RNS I’m sure will be around commercialisation, then availability of POC

@SleepyDave as I understand it the test would be compatible, just a case of putting the little lyophilised reagent bead into the genedrive cartridge. Then they’ll need to confirm they get the same result, pretty much a given since the genedrive does what a lab instrument does. Straightforward and simple now they’ve passed the production milestone so we can be sure a POC version will be out shortly after the 96 lab based version.

Troy, you raise a good question wrt FDA. My feeling is this potentially points to a split sales and distribution strategy between EU and US. I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t an announcement in exclusive license in the US, the licensee then being responsible for FDA... just a guess, we will find out in due course I’m sure! No reason not to apply for emergency FDA so there’ll be a commercial reason imo.

CE Mark is a given, just a submission process...

@cows Sampling is done in the same way, it’s not the company who decide what the sample is, it’s based on where the highest amount of virus is present. Some data says saliva may give similar results, if so all tests will start to use that.

@tonyrowe the genedrive test differs in a number of ways.

1. It’s pre-dosed into individual reactions not a bulk reaction so you don’t have to rehydrate, mix and dispense like you do with the novacyt test
2. It’s room temperature stable for 12 months not just for transport like the novacyt test
3. It’s chemistry is more resilient to mutations compared to the novacyt test
4. The same test can be run on both high throughput qPCR machines from Roche and life tech, but also on genedrive, a handheld point of care device making it both lab and portable with the same test
5. It will be sold worldwide via a partner (tba) likely cytiva
6. Genedrive have other tests and commercial tie ups for tests it has developed and launched earlier in the year. It was going to be a big year for genedrive anyway and current share price doesn’t reflect the opportunity yet by any stretch.

I think the co-development has been part of that non-dilutive approach
