What really frustrates me about the deep wells is that about 4 years ago one was flowing but something was stuck in the bore and rather than work with a reduced flow they decided to 'unblock' it with total failure. So close and yet so far.

The government push costs onto companies at all turns; apprentice levies in place of higher education funding, building remediation costs in place of their falied fire safety regulations,north sea tax levy to fund general taxation and now the banks. Next direction of pension funds into useless start ups. No wonder Apple is now worth more than the entire UK stockmarket - should anyone invest here?

Cereus, yes I worry about Baileys competence. he ran the FCA previously and they were in my direct experience indecisive , slow and incompetent - no surprise to me the B of E are behaving similarly. If they had hiked decisively by 1 % increments [ like they used to] inflation would be lower and we would have a lower 'terminal' rate in the offing. They need to implement 0.5% next week to get ahead of the game but they wont and we will end up with 6% inflation, 6% cpi in 6 months imv. 666 not a great number!

Might get a bit of support today as our CEO said 'volumes across London are at least as good as last year' on Radio4 around 618 am.

So what has better prospects, cash flows and cash balances? It is Apple and not UK stock market which is being milked to support a failing british economy , up to its eyeballs in debt, governed by a party determined to make us less competitive with high energy prices and taxes soon to be replaced by a worse alternative - all imho!

Music, it follows that a 1% increase in population needs a 1% increase in gdp to maintain the status quo and unfortunately we have much less than that. The only person I know who is better off sold his house last year pu his cash on deposit and is using some of the interest to pay his rent spending the rest!

Tymers, I agree he is building a multi billion company and he will do so at our expense if that is what it takes. Imv a couple of years after the aussie listing , he will delist in UK for selfish reasons dressed up as cost efficiencies.

looking at the table, headed recent years we see that since 2019 US plus 5.4%, Eurozone plus 2.5% and UK minus 0.5%. Worse still we have increased our population significantly which flatters these figures , so if you look at GDP per person you will see that we are slipping back further and further as we become poorer relative to other nations . Contrast that with Ireland or Australia and frankly we should be embarrassed!

I cant see Shell wanting to risk its reputation buying into a UK field operated by a minnow and providing a site for eco warrior protests - why would they for minimal returns?

Carltt, there is no doubt the UK economy is in bad shape and the major cause is our energy policy , i.e it costs too much in UK which affects all business profitability and inflation. Believe it or not the Spanish economy by contrast is by contrast doing really well because energy is cheap. In reality we all know that for now Brexit is adding to our financial woes because the EU and the USA are punishing us as a warning to others - we were never going to prosper outside.

Great news, immediate profit worth around 16% of mcap and implied value of the explorer is around 33% of the mcap of the whole company - should lift sp by at least 1p today imv, maybe more.

Aless, I think Lulu is growing much faster in terms of store openings and it has a more upmarket brand but I agree JD should have a much higher valuation but the city is not yet confident of our new management team imv.
