Out of desperation the UK government is proposing to raid the last pile of cash it can find - pension funds, FFS. The reason they are not investing in the UK is in part the high corporation tax, high energy costs, high employment taxes etc which are the responsibility of the government - sort them out and investment will follow because profits will arise for investors.

Until food is left on the grocers shelves they will keep pushing up prices and with a million or so extra people this year buying [ and no more supermarkets or farms to speak of] demand is rising . We are back to the 70s spiral imv.

Livestock, the significance of RPI is twofold; the government are paying huge and rising levels of interest on the index linked bonds - it was something like 40% of borrowing costs and they also have to pay increased ex employee pensions linked to rpi, all of which falls on the taxpayers. As I see things , until demand drops off through recession inflation will remain high - tricky year ahead imv.

Confirmed rebase is looking a bit mean given the stellar results. Great justification as 'profit with a purpose'.

Actually RPI is 11.4%.

Until the Bof E recognise they need to get ahead of the game and raise rates by 0.5% they will be prolonging the pain and suffering of the population. Bailey should be sacked, actually he should have been sacked whilst running the FCA not promoted.

Woods - I agree - Bailey was in charge of the useless FCA for years - why did anyone think he would be competent as governor? Core inflation is still creeping up and they need to get ahead of the game with a half point rise - if not it will be higher for longer as they try to catch the inflation runaway train!

The turning point was the decision to ditch its profitable UK businesses and buy into the cut throat USA and be taken for a ride. IMV longer term this needs to be sold to an american company to realise any value.

And todays sp rise is welcome- based on the likelihood that interest rates will have to rise yet again. The B of E are failing to realise that they needed to use half point increments [and still do] if inflation is to return to target in the next year or so.

Sp was recovering well until wall street opened and then it fell back as footlocker started falling. Given FL fell 8% I am expecting another undeserved bad day here! Hope I am proved wrong.

Divi increase is great news - only worry is headline margin fall but that is explained away so hopefully the market will respond positively.

Likely to fall today imv, uninspiring results smothered in adjustments and optimsism.
